Hi!
I am about to buy a Axim x50mid and collecting last informations.
What seems to be a really big problem is the fact, that there is actually no german rom-update till now (still at version a00).
According to this post:

someone managed to update his french x50v with the english rom.
As i doubt that there are hardware differences between the english and german x50 versions this should most likely (hopefully) be possible, too...
Buuut: besides the language (which shouldn't be a problem): will there be other problems? What about german characters ( ? ) like "ö,ä,ü,ß" etc.. Will these still be available? Any problems with time-zones or german applications to be expected?

Or should I just try to directly get the english version?
(Can't do that directly from Dell so this is a little more problematic (but possible))

you might want to quote some european law at them... You should be able to order an axim in any language within the european union. To stop you doing this would be a restriction on trade between EU member states and thus unlawful. However I don't think there is an obligation for them to offer to sell machines like this on there websites so you may have to pick up the phone

The funny thing is that there is one (one!) non-Dell-store in Germany which sells the Axims directly. And they have a german and an english version in their store (quite cheap, too, www.pdamax.de for 345€). You don't have the possibilitie to subscribe to dell's care-packets directly though. That is why I would like to buy at Dell directly, but from what I heard it is nearly impossible to get an english version from them. And if it is possible it takes several months. Really strange behaviour.
I'd change to another company, but there is no alternative with the hardware you get for the money. And I am already 2 years happy without problems with my Dell Insprion 8200. *sigh*
