Okay I have avoided ebooks for awhile now...but...well the bug bit me. I was thinking I would like to try one out. I am wondering how bad the strain on the eyes is? Any opinion? I mean it isn't like I haven't pay a game for hours until I couldn't see but still... :P
You can adjust the size of the font and that makes it easier to read. I don't think it's too bad, but then I stare at a computer screen all day long anyway. :)
Thanks Fade & Raynne!
I stare at spreadsheet for 8 hours a day already but I had been wondering if they farely easy to read, I think I will give one a try... So next question where are some good places to get ebooks?
I was a long time Palm user and loved my Palm Reader software and books. When I got my Axim the first thing I did was to download the Palm reader for PocketPC (which is free). I still have the Microsoft reader installed but I have only been using the palm reader so far since the e-books I bought only work on that reader.
I have checked out the various web sites and found that e-books.com and Peanutpress.com have very good selections but Peanutpress is much cheaper typically and allow you to read full exerpts on every book (usually the first chapter) before you buy. I just bought Steven Baxter's latest 'Evolution', which is not even in print yet, for $9 last week at PeanutPress.com.
As far as the original question goes, I have had no problems with eye strain with e-books and I read in all light conditions. I usually turn the brightness one above off and invert the screen colors (white on black) if I'm reading in the dark but otherwise I use the default fonts and colors.
The screen is MUCH better to read than my Palm Viix ever was but my only complaint is that I cannot rotate the screen so that I can hold the Axim sideways more comfortably for reading like I could on the Palm :(
Enjoy :D

I don't read for hours at a time, but I read when I can. I haven't found that I experience any eye strain, but like a lot of posters I do spend hours staring at a computer screen as a normal part of the day.
There are some great books out there.

A good source of material pertaining to China and the Far East can be found at e-asia, a digital library of east asia. There is also the complete selected works of Mao Tse-tung including Quotations of Chairman Mao Tse-Tung also known as the Little Red Book. . A very interesting collection for Political Science majors and hardline Marxists.
;)
