Question Best way to install CAB files directly?

New PPC user here.

I've downloaded a CAB installer from here:
http://www.freewareppc.com/utilities/cabinstl.shtml

I'm just not sure where to place it - RAM, BiS, etc? I'm just looking for the best way to install CAB files, rather than have ActiveSync automatically place everything in RAM.

Welcome to Aximsite!!!

You can keep this program in any location and that's fine. I personally have it stored on my SD card. Click on the Cabinstl.exe file on the PPC and make sure that you have checked the box for 'Associate CabInstl with CAB files'. This option will automatically bring up Cabinstl program everytime you click on a CAB file. Depending on your personal preference, you can check or uncheck the 'Do not delete CAB file' option.

by the way...activesync itself gives you an option to install to ifs/cf/sd...when asked to install to default...hit no, then choose.

cabinst can be anywhere.

CAB files are installed directly on PPC and these installations does not go through Activesync. The prompting of AS for installation location will be done only for installation that are run on your PC which then installs the software on your PPC via AS.

On your PPC, if you just click on CAB files then it does not ask for any location and just installs into RAM. By using Cabinstl program, you can make the installation via CAB files to a particular destination.

Thanks all - good info! I'm learning more about PPC every day, and so far I'm loving it!

Only glitch I had was connecting my X50v to my SE T610 Bluetooth phone running under T-Mobile's GPRS. After looking at the communications forum here, I found the simple answer - just *99# in the dial box fixed everything right up. I don't know why Palm makes Bluetooth GPRS setup so complex. And connection to my home WiFi setup was so simple!

So far my only problem will be some investments in new software to replace what I had on my Palm T3 - but I think it's worth it. :)
