While in an ActiveSync partnership with the Axim and my Workstation, I tried to access my inbox at Yahoo Mail. I received an error message on the Axim essentially saying that the software did not spport this activity. Any thoughts on how to access the inbox at Yahoo Mail????

Thanks, Jeraxim

I'm getting the same error message. It basically says my internet exployer needs to be updated. I hope someone has an answer. :(

It's because PIE is a 4.x compatible browser, I believe. Same thing happens if you try to access hotmail via their website instead of through Moblie MSN. I know some 3rd party broswers off this functionality, so you can go to online banking sites, etc. (Bitstream's Thunderhawk is one of them, but it's a service more than an application and costs $50.00 a year. Also, the new version 1.06 which supports the Axim is still in beta. It should be out at the end of the month.)

I'm realtively new to this, Mike. What is PIE? Also, are you saying that I will not be able to access Yahoo Mail from the Axim without an addiitonal cost?

If I can't get to my Yahoo Mail account, what are my low-cost (preferebly no cost) alternatives?

Thanks, Jeraxim

Here is a possible idea I haven't tried and yes it is a PalmOS site but it list as working with PPC also in Version 2.1 Full Version. Here's the link.

Here's my two cents on this :)

PIE is just an acronym for Pocket Internet Explorer. In other words, its just the version you have on your Axim.

As far as accessing Yahoo Mail, you CAN do it with PIE. The trick is to hack the registry so that IE pretends to be Internet Explorer 5.5. After you do this it, Yahoo Mail comes right up.

The easiest way to do this is to install RegKing which is free software. It will let you apply registry hacks from its list of hacks without having to know about the Registry. It also lets you easily undo the change if you should want to. Here is one link to RegKing: http://www.doctorce.com/regking.htm

Also, you'll want to get to Yahoo through this page which is specifically designed for viewing from a PocketPC: http://pg1.yahoo.com

Hope this helps.

Thanks Forge. I didn't know about that utility, or that it could make PIE appear to be a 5.5 compatible browser.

I failed to mention this earlier but I came across a tool called YahooPops! early this morning. It allows you to download your Yahoo email into Outlook! Here's the url: http://yahoopops.sourceforge.net/

So far so good. I did notice that if I tried to use the option of leaving emails on the server for several days, it would create duplicate emails in Outlook the next time I checked emails so I've turned this off for now. I have an idea about a way around this but haven't tried it yet.

Not exactly about the original thread but it does provide another way to access your Yahoo Mail for those of us without wireless access of some sort.

Forge -

I haven't tried your suggestions yet but I'm sure they will work. Thanks much for responding with a couple of suggestions. I, too, found that there is an alternative way to reach the Yahoo portal with IE and PocketPC. When I'm done trying all ways, I'll post my findings.

Thanks, all, for the suggestions

I've seen OneMail and I think it's free directly from the site. I maybe wrong, but it would be the first time. If you do a search at download.com you should find other apps that'll do that also.
