text input?

i'm thinking of buying an axim and was wondering what methods of text input does it have. i've been using a palm for 4 yrs so i'm only use to graffitti. my old nino had hand writing recognition, sumthing similar to t9 and an on screen keyboard, has anything changed since? or improved?

There is a a block recognizer which is the same thing as grafitti. Letter Recongnizer which is like grafitti but you use regular handwriting. Then it has a transcriber which you can write all over the screen in regular handwriting and also cursive. Then the regular keyboard.

Yep, schrags got 'em all in there. There are also programs like Calligrapher that many people like to use.....I've heard that it is much more accurate than the free "Transcriber" that comes with PPCs. As an ex-Palm user, I still prefer to use the "Block Recognizer". It uses the exact same Graffitti alphabet that the Palm's all use, so it makes for an easy transition. I have the fastest input with fewest mistakes with block recognizer, and rarely have to use the backspace stroke......it's very accurate if you're used to PalmOS.

I find that the transcriber works very well with common words, and overall has pretty good accuracy, but when it makes a mistake it isn't easy to go back and fix it.

Yeah, fixing errors with it is a slow process.

Yeah if you have bad handwriting, like me, dont use transciber. But even with my bad handwriting it translates it pretty good. But some of my words it can't and its a pain fixing the errors.

for several months I would wander into Best Buy or Office Depot occasionally and look at the Palms and PPC's, and try my hand at graffiti or block recognizer. I thought I got fairly good at it. However when I got my Ax I find that I always use the builtin keyboard. This will not give you any problems when you go to PPC.

Cool

I have poor handwriting and am left handed and transcriber will still work for me, although most of the time I do use the keyboard just so I don't have to correct any errors.

ALL OF YOU forgot the fastest pen input method ever known to man:

Fitaly!

It's an onscreen keyboard you can d/l. Yes, it costs, but it's worth every penny.

Tried using it for about a week, but just couldn't adjust to it. Block recognizer is still extremely fast for me, and my preferred method. Though, I have heard seen some fitaly users that are REALLY fast with it, so it's worth a shot....you may really like it!!
