Several of the downloads are CAB files. I keep some on my SD card in case I need them, or a friend with a PDA wants one. Some are zipped though, so you have to download the ZIP files & UNZIP them, that's normal.

Skype to other Skype users is free, you can use your Axim like a phone in that sense, but I haven't used it to dial a phone, that's not free.

I don't think the PDAscreen software is necessary if you use XNPocketView to get screen captures since it works without having to be connected on ActiveSync, but I guess it might interest some users.

I may try out the ColorPicker just to see what all it can do.

Thanks!

I added Remote Display Control from MS as a link on my list for those of you who are interested in displaying your PDA screen on your PC going through the ActiveSync connection.
Remote DisplayControl

Also added some pointers to other software on the list for newbies.

Great list I'll check them out after I buy a x51v! I'll keep this thread in mind.

I have an x50V with WM2003se. So that is the only platform I test the list of programs on. Some of these will work on WM5, some might not work well or at all on WM5. Some might have WM5 versions now or in the future. Find what you like and try it out (or search the forums for what programs work/don't work). Feel free to test any from the list on your PDA whether they are Axims or not as long as they are PocketPCs.

Much appreciated!
This is EXACTLY the type of insight I need. Concise and to-the-point, excellent for users like myself that don't have a lot of free time.

Cheers!

no mention for imov messenger? I guess that's the only free jabber client for Pocket PC (works with WM5 portrait mode, never tried on landscape).

Thanks for the tip. I added it to my list of programs for people to know about.

Any of you Axim x51v users (or any WM5 users) using items from this thread list (1st post) should chime in and let me know if certain programs in the list work well or don't work. That way new Axim buyers will be better informed of good free software. =) Also I'm always taking suggestions on links to include in this thread list...

I have overhauled (somewhat) the original list due to me getting a NEW x51v and selling my x50v!!! Check out the upgraded thread, especially the AvantGo fix for x51 users and VBAR version 2.2 for all users (even x51 users)!

I added the Internet Explorer "Page Down" fix to the list! PIE was driving me nuts before getting this to work on WM5 -- my x51v

Note: Paging down while in landscape orientation on PIE gives me occasional white or colored bars obscuring parts of page contents, something to look out for, I have no explanation for this currently.
