Hi,
I have a large video file that I would like to try and put on my Axim, and I was trying to use the Windows Media Encoder 9 series to do so. The file is a large AVI file (about 100 megs) with video and audio. The encoded file (from WME) plays perfectly on my computer (with audio and video), but when I transfer it to my Axim, I can play the video, but receive no audio.
Does anyone know what I need to do to get this to work? Am I missing a driver? On my Axim, I have Windows Media Player version 8.5, build 12177.
Thanks!

I had the same problem you having with Media Player. I finally gave up MP trying to make it work. My method involves a Freeware program "STOIK Video Converter" http://www.stoik.com/downloads/downloads_frm.htm
I use the video convertor to convert to .wmv, also you have the option of video quality. I played with several video quality options, I created a different file, loaded it to a directory through Activesync, then played it on Media Palyer. Crude but effective....My little 300mhz Axim liked the "Video for e-mail and dual-channel ISDN (128 Kbps)" option

when you try to play the file on your axim, go to propeties and see what the audio codec is, I think if you have ppc 2002 wma v.9 will not play, I used to have the same problem before I upgraded.

trackstar, is right... ppc2002 is not wm9 compatible, see my windows media encoding guide at my site..It is setup to show what you need to do to encode video for ppc2002 or better yet give divx a try...Its alot better quality on the ppc2002. Click the link below to go to my site....

If you want to encode Windows Media files that are compatible on PPC2002 you will need WME8 as you cannot use WME9.

If you want to upgrade your Windows Media Player to version 9, an upgrade is available. I just ran across it. If you install it, it will most likely install to RAM taking up space. This is for PPC2002 users.

I'm pretty sure the upgrade you are referencing is NOT version 9...

DON'T install that version on the Axim!!!!! It will actually downgrade the Player that is installed on it. Its to bring the older iPaqs and such up to WMP 8.x and will not do anything for WMP 9. The best way to get the most advanced WMP 8 is to install A04 update. If you really need version 9, you'll have to spring for WM 2003.

I hate that. Quick with the mouse, slow with the brain. I have been trying to recover from the problem.

If you are using Windows XP, you can use Windows Movie Maker to import your video and then export it to wmv format. It also gives you the option of setting an appropriate video size. I've used this on several home videos and transferred the results to my Axim.
