Archos mp3 Products

Hello,

I've been a user of the Archos 604 mp3 multi-media player for almost 3 months now, and I've been really satisfied. It holds 30gbs of music/movies/photos, has a pretty decent sounding external speaker, and has a 3.5 inch screen. I've been satisfied since the day I bought it, and it is still in great condition.

The cost is really cheap compared to the iPod. I was a previous iPod user, and I cannot trust their products anymore. My iPod was working great for the first 5 months I had it. It got broken due to internal Hard Drive problems coming up, and I had to send it back. Just sending it back, even with the warranty, costed me $50 for that. Then, a little over 6 months after that, my iPod had the same problem. But guess what... the warranty ran out. I can no longer trust Apple's products anymore, and since have been avoiding any of their costly products.

I would like to see what an iPhone could do though. I've been hearing lots of good things about it, as well as bad things. I have never owned a cellular device though, which really sucks, because I simply cannot afford it.

But anyways, not to go on, is there any Archos users out there? If so, how do you enjoy your product? Have you had any problems with it? I'd like to hear your input.

Thanks,
Brett

archos products

Hi i'm glad you're having no problems with your archos
604. Back i'm the day, I owned a jukebox recorder. It was great as a HDD based mp3 player until the internal connections started to desolder. Then it would turn off or reset whenever I moved the device top much. I repaired or a few times because or was always the same 4 points. the exterior always felt kind of cheap and plastic-like. Anyways, or took the fun out of using it all the time until I got my nano. I chauked it up to archos' growing pains as it developed newer and better products. Glad to hear that the quality much better now!

Thanks! Sorry about the Jukebox Recorder. I've had many problems with previous mp3 players, but ever since I switched to this mp3 player, it seems to float my boat really well. The only sad part is that it's kind of big to be put in a pocket, but the amazing screen size and quality makes up for its size.

In fact, since the new Archos 605 wifi came out, I'm most likely to return my current on and swap it for the new one. I've never had a PMP with internet, so that would be something cool to look for.

Archos makes some good stuff. IMO they make the best Portable Video Devices around and there quality is top notch. Right up there with iPods and Zunes.

I just wish the way to browse music was a little more defined, it is a bit "old school" IMO and I would love if they added a new interface to the music browser (maybe they have in newer generations, I have not used their newest ones yet).

And Welcome to Aximsite!

Wow, I just read my previous response and it's littered with spelling errors! That's the last time I rush a response on my axim :)

In terms of interface, I never cared for the manufacturer firmware. Luckily for me, I discovered rockboxx which is a hacked fireware and I used that one ever since. Heck I STILL use rockboxx for my nano since now I can just put songs on in a directory structure. Not as pretty but makes it more functional.

BrentB, how is the battery life on your device for music and videos? I think I saw the 700 series (I could be wrong) at Futureshop and damn it looked pretty sweet.
