hey all, i'm new to this site, and to most pocket pc's and such. I just bought myself a Magellan Maestro 4250 GPS, and was reading up on what sort of things it was capable of doing. As a little background, it runs off of Windows CE 5.0, and so far i have loaded up File Manager on it, and thats about it. I was following these instructions on how to hack this thing: Step 1 back up all of the orignal files on the Magellan Note that in that walkthrough, he is using a 3100, but all the Maestro models use Windows CE 5.0, so it doesn't matter that mines a higher model.
Basically it gives you more POI's, better maps, the ability to switch between maps instantly (i believe), File manager, and it's supposed to be loaded with TCPMP 0.81RC1. I decided to skip out on all the maps and POI stuff, basically i just wanted the media player, and File Manager (plus a few games or something) I have successfully completed the steps up to the TCPMP, but the link the guy gives for the TCPMP download (which is actually a thread somewhere on this site) requires some sort of special permissions to download, since it won't let me do it with my account. I've looked everywhere for this program for the past 4 days, but was not able to find the specific one this guy used with his. If anyone knows where i can find a media player that will work on Windows CE 5.0 and doesn't require the user to be a rocket scientist, Please let me know. Thanks in Advance.

You were asking for a version of TCPMP that is a higher number than I know of.
The most common one can be found here and if you go to the downloads section of this site you will find all the codec for it there. Unit Zero has very kindly put them all together to make life easy for us. Edit: This thread by Unit Zero should help you out too. He mentions the 8 version of TCPMP there.

If you haven't been to GPSPassion yet, you should check them out. I have a Magellan Crossover that is unlocked and running TCPMP, office applications, games and lots of other porgrams. Check-out the MioPocket unlock which contains all of this.

Have you looked into MIOPOCKET 2.0. It works pretty good on the 4250. I'm currently using it on my 4250. Some of the programs do not function, but the media player and a number of the games do. I am currently running it thru my SD card. If you follow the directions (other models)it works. This means you have to rename 2 of the files to AutorunCE (both the exe and the mcsr files). There is also a good free video converter called PRISM. I've already made a movie that fits on the display. Remember that it takes alot of resources to play, so you can't have the map running in the background. By the way, for my hack into the 4250 was to download softbutton and install it on the 4250. Then I renamed Navigator to Navigator.orig and then softbutton to navigator.exe
Good luck and have fun! | |||
