So using headphones uses less battery than with speakers, interesting. Five hours battery life is good enough for most long haul flights - it's not like you'd use the unit for the whole journey. Think I'd probably get a spare battery though.

Other than what you already know the numbering scheme seems to be the same as the PS2 and PS1. 1000 is Japan, 1001 is USA, and from looking at the last number on a PS2 or PS1 for your region it should be the same as the number on the PSP.

This is interesting. I heard how crappy the battery life on these were but looking at this makes me way more interested in one now. So is what I heard about the Japanese model or was the guy who told me that just full of it.

X50v's battery life is disgusting. But all the features of the device make up fo rit for me. I figure with the extended battery and a portable battery pack charger thing it will be fine for a nice long trip.

@mrp04: It probably will stick out as the battery will probably be pretty mcuh double the size as most extended batteries are.

The Nintendo DS has the best battery life I have ever seen on a handheld. However, it isn't so powerful compared to the PSP, so it's not surprising that the PSP has worse battery life. For me, though, battery life usually isn't a problem. I almost always have access to a power outlet. It's good to know that the battery life on the PSP is decent. I heard in the beginning that the PSP had battery life issues.

Unfortunately, it would have to stick out from the device. That's just the nature of batteries. There's only so much capacity that you can fit into a given amount of physical space. To increase the capacity beyond that requires that the physical space be increased as well. That's why extended batteries on cell phones, PDAs, camcorders, cameras, etc are always bulkier (larger and heavier) than the standard batteries.
