Movies on PSP
Does anyone know if movies can be downloaded and viewed on a PSP via the memory card? It seems that the number of movies that will be available specifically for the PSP will be limited for quite some time, not to mention a bit costly.

While the site is still new, I thought I'd offer a tip that's helped keep some of the other forum sites easy to search on....

Just post your message in a single forum on the site. If the same post is made in multiple forums on the site, it might not make much of a difference right now while there aren't many posts, but once the site is bigger it can make searching a pain. One of the threads might get an answer, while the other doesn't get an answer. Easier to just keep the answer all in one place.

Yes, you most definitely can view your own movies on the PSP, but you do have to jump through a few hoops. Also, make sure you have a card that can hold the movie, you[ll be shocked at how large they are in MPEG4 format.

The ability to watch movies from the flash memory and not a spinning cd is a nifty little feature that will save battery life for those who are road warriors, or those who don't have a power outlet nearby.

The problem with that is the flash memory gets pretty pricey to hold a movie or two.

MP4 I think. And for the flash memory, just go to www.newegg.com. You can find them cheaper there

A nice 1GB flash card should be sufficient to hold a good movie, I found the few 20+ mb mpeg movie clips I had, when I converted them using some Japanese prgm I found resized the file to about 5mb, anybody else notice this?

I think they have a limited line of movies available on amazon.com, my question is would u spend $20-$25 for a UMD movie that can only be played on the PSP, or the original DVD for the same price. I would buy the DVD and convert it and play it on the flash memory of either my x50v or the PSP.

I agree completely. Why pay the SAME exact price (and in some cases more) for a UMD movie when you can just buy the DVD and rip it to any device you choose including your PPC/PDA and the PSP???

Sony screwed up. They should have offered the UMD's for FREE with those DVDs or just charged $9.99 or less for the UMD versions. Sony is getting greedy and cocky again and it's going to come back to haunt them.

Few people will buy the UMD versions of movies when for the normal price- or more in some cases- of the identical DVD. I just checked and "House of Flying Daggers" has a price tag of $29!! Yes, you read right: $29!! Double what you;ll be able to buy the DVD for, I'm sure. Now if that itsn't a kick in the pants and a cold bucket of water thrown on the consumer that wants to check out movies on UMD format.

Sony might take a bit of a hit in the wallet initially, but then again, they OWN the UMD format. They OWN the movies that they are releasing on DVD (Sony Pictures) so I don't see them loosing much at all initially anyway by offering the UMD movies as free pack-ins or very low priced stand-alones...

Anyway, in the long run it will help drives sales of the PSP and further cement UMD as a viable movie format which will more than make up for the initial loss with tons of profit for Sony.

Wake up Sony!! Are you listening?? Offer it as a FREE pack-in with the normal DVD or charge very little for it stand-alone.

FallN. I agree also, that is fricken ridiculous. But maybe a lot of people will buy the UMD because they don't have experience in ripping or such.

Hi Korgy. From my experience, anyone savvy enough to own a PSP right here and now knows more than enough about ripping DVDs. My 5 year old nephew knows how to rip DVDs!! People will think and do the math:

$250.00 = PSP
$050.00 = One Game
$050.00 = Accessories
$029.00 = UMD movie?!? Hell No!

Simple arithmatics...
