Own PSP: I hate this, I need this ?
We all know the pluses,

but as a PSP owner, 1) what are the worst things about PSP, and 2) what would you like to see fixed on it.

I am not talking about accessories or what would be a cool device, but actually the PSP itself. Do you hate the button layout? or the screen is too bright, or the contrast or the way it feels, should have they made it different color? different material? heavier, lighter, how about shock & vibration, infrared?

We've also heard about the dead pixels..

Let's hear it from the owners. I am more interested in hearing the negative aspects of it.

1. I'd like to see a built-in browser straight out of the box. No hacking into WipeOut!

2. I'd like to see an official Sony software suite allowing easy transferring of movies, music and photos. The current process is arduous at best.

3. Dead pixels: FIX IT!

4. Longer battery life or the option to purchase an extended battery pack.

5. The PSP is a bit heavy... it would be nice it it were lighter but it's not a deal-breaker.

6. I hate the white color of the headphones and remote. A cheap swipe at the iPod if you ask me. It looks ghetto against the sleek, shiny black PSP case. Sony needs to drop the white headgear and swtich to classy black ones. My personal opinion.

7. I would have LOVED Bluetooth! Think: you could use wireless BT headphones and BT keyboards. Yummy!

Ok, that's all I have right now. I'll post back when I see more things that need tweaking.

that's it? No other owners of PSP to rant about anything?

You all make Sony proud

I don't have a PSP unfortunately. I'm stuck playing with my friends, although I guess that's better than nothing. My only rant is the weight. It is a bit heavy, but it's not all that bad I guess. Just need to get used to it.

I really do not understand why these mobile game machines are hitting the market without a web browser ready to go. It seems that they would capture a larger market if they had web access. Bluetooth is another. It just seems like a no-brainer to me.

I lucked out on the dead pixel issue, The UMD door does not seem to close all the way. They did a review on pdageek and he has a similar problem. I don't want to risk returning it and getting a unit with dead pixels. I would like to see a bulit in web browser and desktop syncing software for music/videos. I would also like to be able to download 3rd party software (i.e. betaplayer)

I don't have one...but I would add in that the screen should be touch screen...even though it would cost more...

Ever since using my Axim...any flat small LCD screen...I have a tendency to touch it...

Well adding on to the "it could use a browser" It would be nice to have a calendar/appt feature...not a full feature PIM but something that could strore appointments and addresses would be nice. Also an integrated software package that lets you convert movie files to the card would be nice.

Weight?
I see a few folks complaining about the weight of the device. Since I don't yet have one (still debating as my iPAQ hx4700 seems to do everything I would want a PSP for), I'm curious how its wight compares to devices like the hp 4700 and the Dell Axim x50v. Anyone have both that can offer a side by side weight comparison?

Q

Hmmm...then buy a PDA if you don't have one.

Seriously though...I understand WiFi letting you play your friends over the internet (if possible), the PIM would be an extra...but what about this software package...

Let you make your own movies, or be forced to shell out money for each disk...sounds like a good financial decision by Sony to me, but then there are always wasy of getting around things...

What about a UMD burner...or the ability to read mini CD/DVD-R's? Never know what's around the corner.

Dell Axim x50v is pretty light, nothing comparable to any others.

This one seems bulky.

Back to topic, it would have been great if they had a way to add TV Tuner to it?

I would like to see less reliance on proprietary technologies - If I buy a movie, I'd want to be able to play both in my PSP and in other devices.

As for memory, what about SD instead of Memory Stick? I really don't want to have to buy another memory format just for one device.

Two complaints for me, and very common ones. A Browser in my opinion would sell 50% more PSP's than they are without one. I lust the day I can kick back on the couch and surf the web with the PSP's beautiful bright screen. The other complaint is the stupid memory sticks. I have a couple SD's and feel like I'm throwing money away buying another form of memory that will only work on Sony products.
