PSP online --- will you play?
So! What's the scoop? Do you think you'll take advantage of online/wireless multiplay with the PSP? What do you hope to play? How do you think the PSP will handle lag?!

Tell all!

Yes, that's the reason I bought it. For the multi-player. Seems VERY promising right now, but from my expereince with Twisted Metal I'm gettin' scared. The PSP should have no system-based lag.

The PSP is only 333mhz. It WILL have some lag, although it shouldn't be very noticable. But then again, if you have an extremely fast computer and are used to no lag, you might notice it more. Anyway, back on topic, the main reason I want a PSP (and the reason my friend got one), is because of the ability to play games over the internet.

I have been playing NBA online and it is very addicting, I have my PS2 setup online but have only played it a few times. The online experience with the PSP is very fun, I do notice lag a few times but nothing major.

BINGO! ONLY IF IT STAYS FREE! Sony will cripple the PSP and it's sales if they start charging to play mulirplayer games over the internet. Look at what they did to the PS2!! I was one of the first to buy the Ethernet add-on years ago and I haven't purchased a game for it becasue all of the games I like are pay-to-play. No thank you. I should'ave hooked that eathernet addition on eBay quick fast but it still sits, unused, in the belly of my PS2 waiting for a good free online game. And the same will happen if Sony tries to get even greedier and start charging for online gaming with the PSP... I can seriously see this coming to fruition...

Sony wants to get us hooked on the hardware, games and the online play and then once enough units are sold and enough people are hooked, they'll start charging! This tactic has been used forever and is exactly what drug dealers do: peddle your drugs for FREE, get people hooked then start charging premium for people to get their fix. Sony is just another 2-bit street hustler. LOL!

I'm still very antsy about it... and since Sony has been "mum" on their online strategy it makes me think they're definitely going to go the drug-dealer route...

Sony needs to understand that a $250+ handheld gaming system with $50 games, $100 Memory Sticks and then raping people's pockets even further by nickle-and-diming over online play will seriously threaten the PSP's longevity and selling power.

Xbox Live is a much better service...

If they would have people pay to play online...it should be one flat rate... Not individual games...with seperate usernames...etc.

What are you talking about? I only played one game on the PS2 that you had to pay for (FFXI) every other game is free to play online... Socom, EA sports titles, and others I cant think of now. So what game you had to pay for?

I agree for the most part Segadc (btw, I loved my Dreamcast). Microsoft has the better online model and that's why online gaming on the Xbox is thriving while online gaming on the PS2 is stagnant. But those are CONSOLES.

The PSP is a very expensive HANDHELD that requires WiFi to go online. This would not only force people to have broadband, but force them to ALSO get wireless APs and/or routers. More work and money on the user's end just to get the game that they paid for up and running and then tack on crazy fees to play online? You know that's going to kill the PSP/online gaming in most people's eyes. They've already shelled out a half a grand for the PSP+games now you're going to nickle-and-dime them to fully play those games?

Very bad business model if you ask me and a model for failure.

Again...What are you talking about??? 1. If you are not already on broadband u shouldnt be playing online, its too slow and laggy to be enjoyable, most servers will kick u off if have anyhting less than broadband speed. 2. I paid $20 for my router kit ($80 minus $60 rebate) 3. Living in NY, like I do u should be able to link into any Wifi Hotspot and get connected... So whats your point?

any game where the game data resides on a server at the companies end will be pay to play. They will not purchase servers, and bandwidth for us to use for free. This goes for mmorpgs mostly. Games that have multiplayer 1-8 player support, and no server side saving needed, will be free. It will always be this way. Always.

Dude, what are you talking about? I have Broadband. I have been playing online for years and beta test of Sony Online Entertainment for YEARS. So I don't know what the heck you're talking about.

What I was stating was PEOPLE will be forced, etc., I ALREADY HAVE BROADBAND AND A WIFI NETWORK SET UP!! But LOT of people don't!! NYC isn't the WHOLE U.S you know and the MAJORITY of people with an internet connection STILL only have dial up! Get a clue.

And just because you got a router for $20, you had to send in $140 worth of rebates!Dude, you paid $160 for your kit outright and had to wait MONTHS for the rebate check, you're lucky because we all know how some rebates go: sometimes you don't wind up getting them.

Not everyone can afford to get broadband. Not everyone can even GET braodband/DSL in their area even if they have the money for it!! Not everyone can afford to front $160 for a "router kit" then wait months ahd HOPEFULLY get $140 back.

Not everyone is made of cash readily available to through at Sony, a PSP and getting hosed to play that PSP online.
