s of right now no one has a way to rip the files off the disks yet unless a computer comes out with a UMD drive the only way I could see it happening is a homebrewed program that sends the disk contents over the USB connection or stores it to a memory stick.

That is one possibility. With so many flexibilities over PSP, there could be a smally application which can turn PSP into UMD reader via USB. That actually should not be that difficult. Doesn't PSP Store game-saves into MS ? If it can do that, it must be sort of a door, that is only being opened when PSP is copying contents off RAM into MS, and at that point, if a customized S/W that knows the innercore of the PSP were to get inside, and keep that door open, it might also get some information out of UMD. PSP has to access UMD anyway, and I assume it is just the same format as MiniDVD or MD, with only a extra number here and there to make it "encyrpted".
PSP is so young now, and believe me, there are a lot people working on it to get anything out of it.
