PSP Wireless
Does PSP connect to LAN hotspots like the DS? I don't think it does but I always hear different explainations. Can someone with PSP knowledge explain multi-player gaming works with the PSP?

Disclaimers: I don't have a PSP and I don't claim to know what the hell i'm talking about.

I'm pretty sure the PSP can connect to WiFi hotspots in infrastructure mode for internet play and in Ad-Hoc mode for PSP to PSP play (Up to 16 players or something).

I hope i'm right and I hope that helped.

Yes, I've heard that it connects for WiFi (I think that's Starbuck's connection) but then again I've heard that its not.

So is there any free way of playing over the 'internet' with your PSP?

you can play for free from your home wireless network. as for hot spots, you can use them as long as they dont require a browser log in. the psp doesnt support that yet, although i believe we will see it in an update

I'm on cable internet, so no wireless network here.

What exactly is a hotspot? I'm guessing that the PSP can pick up wireless transmitions at different locations? If so, you would randomly find a place around town where you can just connect to the internet with your PSP?

A hotspot it's like at Starbucks or some hotels, before you can access the 'net you have to sign in. Some hotels, for example, after you type any website you'll be directed to their sign-in screen. PSP currently does not support this, although it will in the future (I read it on a chat transcript on the official forums).

What I seem to be having trouble with, is wireless connections that do not boradcast their SSID as it's the case in my school. I have already connected at home, but was not able at school, even after inputting the SSID manually. Weird thing is, from the same spot my Axim connected just fine but my PSP was not able to detect the access point.

You *May* be able to use the Pure WipeOut's browser to login on Hotspots. Then again I am not so sure if it would work if you want to then go play online games.
Seems like a bit of a waste until we get a firmware update with the Real Browser.

you make it sound like if you have cable you cannot have wireless period! just go to any comp store and pickup a wireless router, make sure to checkout the manual.
