Dead Pixel Problems
I don't have a PSP yet. I'd really love to get one, but the price tag is more than a little hefty. I'm considering buying one at some point, but I've heard that many people have problems with dead pixels- usually about three scattered dead pixels, but occasionally clusters and even rows and columns of dead pixels! In fact, there was even a person whose screen had about 50 pixels that could not turn completely black. I've also heard that Sony will not replace PSP's with dead pixels, despite the number of people who have problems. To make things worse, I've heard that in the manual of the PSP, it says that dead pixels are just the way that LCD screens are. SO not true. I wouldn't pay $250 for something with a messed-up screen. Thus, I'm very reluctant to buy a PSP.

Any reputable company that sells something with a LCD will replace it (under warrenty) if it has a certian amount of dead pixels. Usually 5+ but i'm not sure about sony's case.

every LCD will eventually have dead pixels.
For companies to replace the LCD screens, they don't really have to spend too much money or time. As long as it doesn't bother me that much, I would not ask manufacturer to replace it, if it has "within their specs" dead pixels, I would live with it. Let's say they allow 10 pixels, and I have 12, I would not ask them to replace it, because the other one might have 9 and for 3 pixels would you risk getting something else not working fine, or a button too hard or something else getting loose?

Personally I'd hate to hell to have any amount of dead pixels. All my devices with LCD screens were quite expensive....

IMO, Id hate to have a whole grip of dead pixels if i got a psp. it seems that you're paying good money for a good product so you expect it to be close to perfect.

first post!
I am also considering buying a PSP, they just look so cool. I always hear people complaining about dead pixels, and saying its sonys fault. Its not sonys fault, they dont manufacture the PSP screens, i think samsung makes the screens. If it is just a couple, you will get use to it. If its way too much, you should get it replaced with sony, and if its replaced now, I dont think they would give you a piece of junk that doesn't work right.

If you buy it from a store, you can usually return it if there are any dead pixels. I read on Engadget about this.

I did the screen color test on mine and did not notice any, The most I have read about so far is 26. I don't know why they bother be so much but I have returned PDA's that have had one dead pixel. I currently have four PDA's and none with dead pixels. I don't recall the manufacturer but someone came out this past year and guaranteed no dead pixels on their lcds.

Nintendo guarantees no dead pixels. If your Nintendo DS has even one dead pixel, Nintendo will replace it free of charge.

well, they are lower resolution screens, so its less of a chance of getting a dead pixel because there are less pixels and they are much larger.

I do not have a PSP yet, but of the three people I know personally who have one 1 has dead pixels. About a 33.333333333% of my very unscientific poll had em.
