Failing Memory Stick Duos - Sandisk
I've read some reviews on Amazon for a certain brand of memory stick which isn't compatable with the PSP. It runs for the first few times fine and then can no longer be read.

Anyone have any of these experiences with their MSDs? I'm not sure which brand it is, but it may have been Sandisk, which would explain why they released their gaming version of the MSD.

Edit: Here are some reviews on the sandisk for use on the PSP:

" Worked great...for about a week
Like many others, I purchased this for use in my Sony PSP. I loaded it up with some MP3's before getting on an 8 hour flight and it worked great. About a week later it suddenly stopped working. The PSP no longer recognizes it and when I plug it into my laptop I get a message saying the card needs to be formatted. No problem, just format it, right? Well, when I try to format it I get a message saying that the card can not be found.

I really liked this product at this price...it's a shame it didn't work."

"2 stars Great for everything but the PSP
Yeah, this worked great for about 12 hours. Then I was getting the re-insert card error. My PSP reads the card about 40% of the time, and even then I get serious lag when trying to play MP3's and Video. If you have a Sony Camera, probably a great card, but its awful when dealing with the Sony PSP. "

If that is the case (that it is Sandisk), they are gonna have a whole bunch of people sending them back the 1gb or people are going to take them back to the stores and be really bitchin'. That was some real greedy shizz to put out a stick that wouldnt work after a while on PSPs, when they know that is what they would be bought for. If you look on their sight (& others who sell them), you will see that on the original solid blue Pro Duos, they have taken most of the references to Sony PSP out and put those refs onto the "Gaming Pro Duo". Everybody needs to bomb them with emails asking WTF are they doing and where can we trade the solid blues for the gaming. Once CNET gets a hold to this info, it's on buddy!!

I have a 512MB Sandisk MS Duo. It messed up once when I was saving a profile in Wayne Gretzky NHL. It lost my profile file and was replaced with a file called "corrupted data". The other game saves were still there though (untold legends and ridge racer). I still see a bunch of "Corrupted Data" files in my Game Saves though.

Also, my 512MB Sandisk will not be detected when used with the supplied "Sandisk MS Duo adapter" in my MS card reader.

Funny thing is, the 32MB *Sony* MS Duo will work with the same Sandisk adapter in my MS card reader!

Well its not that simple. I have one of the blue Sandisk 512MB memory sticks and it works fine. Although Sandisk is not really known for the quality of any of its memory cards.

I guess that might be another explanation why they're cheaper than the Sony ones, besides the fact that Sony products are always overpriced.

This is the story about the Sony 1GB I bought from a retailer in Sydney which the card is doing the same thing as yours and after formatting and spending countless hours on the internet trying to solve the mystery of the 'save failed 80110385' we've come to the conclusion that it is a dud AND a counterfit despite being bought at a Retailer, but in questioning the shop we bought it off they seemed to think that unless it was more than one game that did not save then there was nothing wrong with the stick (we tested saving 4 games (all failed) and one of the games even froze in attempting to quit out of it, this never happend with the genuine sony stick), so we asked them whether it was a counterfit they coily replied that "i'm entitled to my own opinion"........counterfits look cheap - the print on the card is of less quality and the packaging is flimsy, I thought Ebay only sold the counterfit memory sticks NOT retailers in Sydney!!!!... We contacted Sony regarding this and they said they have no control over the counterfits on the market, they even said that they weren't making 3GB memory cards yet there is heaps of them being sold on ebay, they told us that official Sony 3GB memory sticks are not being released till later this year...... needless to say i have my PSP with me 3 games and the dodgy card and i'm taking it back to the retailer today to prove to them it doesn't work- and despite they're 7 day return policy (it's been 2 1/2 weeks and probably taken about that much time trying to work out what is wrong with it!) we'll see if they give me a full refund without the punishment of a 15% re-stocking fee. Well if they don't give me back the $125 in total that i paid for it (and i ask myself why didn't i just get a genuine 1GB sony from the sony store for only $190) i'll be posting they're company name all over the net so people know they sell counterfits! and i'll let them know i did it cos when you do an internet search on 'save failed 80110385' not much comes up but this forum!! BEWARE OF THE COUNTERFITS.... that's my advice.
