Cases, cases everywhere! But I'm not shelling out...
I can't understand the explosion of the variety of cases. If anything, the "reviews" on the psp which thumbs downed the official case were promoting the purchase of 3rd party cases. Absolutely everyone I know who has a psp loves the one that came with it. I've noticed it's actually difficult for me to remove the psp from the case, even when shaking it. And I mean hard. Sure, there's no protection for one small side of the psp, but I've never had problems with this. It's not like you're gonna stuff your psp in a place where you'll also be throwing pennies, pens and swiss army knives into your bag with it. Sure, there are other more rigid cases which prevent breakage from extreme pressure, but who's going to accidentally step on their psp? I'm not quite sure what people are afraid of...
I find that all I've needed is my Hori screen protector, a vinyl skin and the official case. Looks slick, and I've never had a problem...

I agree, add me to that list.
My only complaint is that it doesn't have a pocket for UMD, which would make it ultimate!

I'm actually waiting for my 3rd case to come, I learned me lesson the hard way in the past by dropping/ruining my PDA's. I will keep it in great condition for resale value.

I personally did not care for the case that came with it, its just a soft case and there are plenty of things that can accidently happen to it ie dropping it, falling off your desk, amoungst 100's of other things that can accidently happen to it.

Me personally I have the Pelican head banger case, cost me $10 and came with 4 UMD cases (that it can hold too), 2 slots for memory sticks, a cleaning cloth, and its pretty hard to it would protect my PSP from any accidently drop of any kind.

I'm of the train of thought where if something's as expensive and relatively as fragile as the PSP, I try to be as hard as possible not to be negligent about it and do whatever I can to prevent a disaster from happening. For instance, not putting it on the edge of a table, not putting it on a floor, not stuffing it in a bag with other stuff, putting it in a place where nothing will fall on it, etc. really takes the need away from getting a case that can withstand a small nuclear explosion. Yes, accidents do happen but I find that if you pay a more mindful eye on what's going on around your expensive stuff, accidents won't happen as frequently. Just my opinion, so no flames, please. I'm already guilty of looking into cases in the past but I haven't really found any that I liked and, as time passed, figure I don't need one. If something happens, well, I guess it's a gamble that I lost. If you don't want door dings, park at the far end of the lot.

ok so your psp has a bodygaurd (you) but if I was something important enough to have a bodygaurd, I know I would want a bulletproof vest.

The PSP isn't on me 24/7 so it doesn't exactly have a bodyguard. All I'm saying is that being a little more careful about things like the PSP might prevent some spills. I know where my PSP is and I just make sure that it's relatively save from drops and other accidents. Like I said, I'm not against cases but I don't feel I need one and, honestly, none of the cases out there really appeal to me.

^thats perfectly fine and thats your opinion but honestly I still think there is always a need for a case when it comes to something as fragile as a PSP or PPC, it doesn't matter if you know exactly where it is or your are always careful with it, its just the point at any moment something could happen that could make you drop it or it fall off a desk or something you can never be sure and having a case to protect it in case it happens is always the best way to go imo. But hey its up to you, if you think that you are careful enough with it then thats cool with me and its no loss to me its just my advice to get for something as expensive and fragile as a PSP.

Yes, I know why there would be a need for a case and, yes, I know that accidents happen (as stated in my first post) and, yes, I've considered getting a case and may still end up getting one as it stands. But I think what Koniro said was right, the case thing is getting a little out of hand (can you say, Vaja?). I think a tougher case is a good idea because I feel I can snap the PSP in half if I wanted to. I guess it's just a little funny how some people make these cases seem to be the next best thing since, well, the PSP.

i survive pretty well with jsut a film screen protecter, it came with a rubber skin, but i decided it made the psp too bulky, and i didnt really need it, other than that, i might be a little lazy since i have the waranty on it, but i still take good care of it, maybe sometime down the road i might try a case, but im going to wait till the amount that keep comming out slows down a bit

I will say playing the PSP without a case feels very cool.

Your PSP is like anything else that you own. You want to personalize it and make it yours. A case allows a person to do this and express some individuality. I like cases that will let me do this. I'm a case guy but I've always been a case guy from PDAs to iPods. I like the added protection.
