Annoyed By Ads Blocking Menus?

Is anyone else out there really IRRITATED by the AD that appears on the Aximsite page that BLOCKS our ability to read the forum menu? I understand the need for advertising, but does Aximsite have to go the way that other pages do, which BLOCK CONTENT with their ads? It is really frustrating....I couldn't get the ad to go away.......this particular ad was for SODOKU or something like that.......really annoying that I never did get to the forum I was looking for~

No. I don't see any ads, on any page, ever. Firefox + Adblock Extension + Filterset.G Updater Extension gets rid of everything.

That's true about firefox. I've not tried the Filterset.G Updater extension, I'll have to try that one out.

I've not encountered this ad you speak of with IE.

Next time it happens get a screenshot and post it in the Site Troubles/Suggestions forum.
http://www.aximsite.com/boards/forumdisplay.php?f=25

If Chris can see how an ad is blocking a forum it will be easier for him to resolve the problem. Also let him know what browser your using and what resolution your desktop is set to. So he can reproduce it.

I use AdMuncher here at home so I never see them here. Now I do get a handful when I visit from work since they have nothing to filter them out.

Nope, I use firefox and have never had any issues here at all. Firefox is so much better than IE ever will be. :approve:

I dont feel like debating, so good good, whatever works for you :)

But this subject gets brought up alot about the ads here on the front page. With firefox the ads cover the menus and the menus are sometimes clear. You can search in this forum and find lots of topics on it.

If you have to use IE, like some people must due to hardware contraints, then try using a good Ad-Blocker. Personally, I use ZOne Alarm Internet Security and I've not had any problems and I rarely see an add. In fact, I've had troublethis week seeing the Astraware special because Zone Alarm thinks it's an ad (which it is).

for the record, i am running opera. First of all, I do not think this is pop up add. The fact that it is displaying over the forum pull down, is a browser/add interaction problem. I did not have the problem, until I updated my opera problem to the lastest version (8.51). I don't think I will give up opera or aximsite because of it.

Actually, FireFox does accept standards. Web standards are established by the W3C, to which FireFox stricly adheres. Microsoft is the one that isn't based on the standards, allowing IE to accept any crappy code a web developer throws at it whether it adheres to W3C standards or not. Usually stuff that doesn't work correctly in non-IE browsers is because the developer of the site didn't stick to W3C standards.
[/RANT-OFF]

Anyhow, for this particular issue.... I have not been able to replicate this problem using Firefox, IE, or Opera. As has been mentioned, the next time you experience the problem could you take a screenshot? Have you experienced this with with multiple ads, or just the Sodoku ad that you mentioned?

This has been discussed before and Chris is aware of it. I am not sure what the answer is but he is aware that it is an irritant to many of us.

As I said, I am using opera 8.51. It happens sporadically most noticably and disabling with the sudoku ad. Please excuse the attached shot, (I suddenly realized that I didn't know how to do a screen capture in xp, with limited graphic software installed ) The sudoku ad wasn't showing up, but you get an idea of what happens, by looking at the overlaping of the axim homepage into the quicklinks drop down.

It obviously only happens on the homepage, and since many heavy users may bypass the page, the problem could appear to happen less often than it actually does.

Not ranting about anything, but it is noticable. It does happen. For all I know it is a combination of browser, ad language and graphic card.

I'll keep a look out for the sudoku ad try to post it as well.

It's not about blocking the add.Its about the fact that this particular add has a drop down feature that blocks our ability to see the forum links.
