I realise that it's necessary to impose a character limit when shown in the postbit (else it would skew the formatting), but why is one imposed in user profiles, where there is more space?

I did not realise that there was a character limit when filling in my profile, as it's not mentioned, nor did Axim site prevent me from submitting it. So, since the data's in the db, why not use it on profiles?

Many of the profile fields show up on your posts, under your Avatar, so I guess that's why profiles data is limited (just a guess). If you want to include more information about yourself, it should easily fit in your MyPDA area (Quick Links, Edit MyPDA).

You can also put some extended data in your signature, so it shows up on your posts (and in your public profile), as well.

Well, I only want the extra character... :laughs:

If it would mean having to hack the code, rather than just use a plugin, I can understand why Aximsite's gone down this path - too many potential upgrading problems with hacks.

But I wouldn't know, never played with a vB system.
