I had preferred to do this offline but based on comments above it's unlikely that I will be able to do so anytime soon. I understand the board is a "hobby", but the membership still needs to be supported.
My account was one of the 2 (according to Howard) that was hacked the other day. Very frustrating to login and get a message saying my account was banned because it was hacked. A couple of questions that I'm hoping one of the forum moderators can answer:
1. What was hacked? Was the password compromised? Hard to believe the password was compromised since Lotus Notes thought is was a "strong" password, rejecting several until I came up with it. But anything is possible.
Pretty hard to find how it happen but someone had your user ID and password. If you logged on a PC somewhere with your ID and didn't uncheck "remember me on this PC", anyone using the pc after you can get into your account.
2. How does the "system" know the account was hacked? You complaint about it or you are trying to login and someone else from another PC with a different IP address is already logged.
3. Since there is an email tied to every account, why didn't the system auto generate an email to my address of record notifying me that the account was hacked? The email account won't know as this can be change in your profile control panel. The message is redirected to the new address. If it is change you won't get any warning. This wouldn't be too usefull.
4. How do I get my old account "un-banned" or at least get my post count updated to what it was when the account was hacked? (Old account was mkss55442.) This one I can't answer but your old account can be rename. I will PM you if I found any details about your old account as I do not want to post this here. Be patient with me my friend I will get back to you tonight. PM me with the email address used for your account and other information typed so I can compare.
Any help an administrator or moderator can give me would be appreciated.

We can't be too specific with the details, as I'm sure you understand. It'd be like you telling someone on the street that your house was broken into and they say "How EXACTLY did they do it?"

Apologies for the delay in responding. As frenchy noted, things have been incredibly busy, both in our real lives, and behind-the-scenes at Aximsite (stuff that keeps this site going). This is not an excuse; we want to be more on top of these issues, and we are currently discussing a re-order of staff in order to better serve our members (promoting frenchy to admin being one of them).
As to the hacked account, I'll have a quick chat with frenchy, see what's what and get it sorted pronto.

Okay......... wait............. now the kss55442 is banned too? And I have noticed some posts I don't remember making.......
No, I'm just kidding, I only leave the check mark to always login on one computer, and that is protected my passwords, and around 5 layers of firewalls, and whatnot. I see the system automatically deletes double posts now, since I acciedentally did that, and when I tried deleteing one, it said invalid post, and when I looked back, it was gone.
And when was Frenchy made an admistrator?!?! I just noticed!
And Howard2K, I'm not sure how vBulletin's work, but in phpBB, only Admistrators can ban, not moderators :)

I'm a moderator at 3 phpBB2's, I wish moderators could ban there!
Although at two of them, I'm an admin, so it doesn't matter, but they are inactive anyway. The third is active, and I really wish I could ban! (We get porn adverts all the time)

What's troll banning?
We pretty rarely ban people. We have a good crowd for the most part. For a site that's been around so long our ban list is pretty short :)
