While extra bandwidth use doesn't cost me money, I ended up turning off display of people's signatures because I found one to be in very poor taste (my wife or kid would probably think I was very strange if they saw it on my display, and frequently the guy would post multiple consecutive replies making it hard for me to slide his signature off the screen when the family was around).

Since the guy's actual posts were not in the least annoying, I found it best to turn of signatures rather than block him.

Now when people say "see my signature for link" I'm in a quandary. Is it worth going to the control panel or not?

not everybody has a broadband connection as yet - though it's getting to the point where folks on dialup really need to smell the coffee and upgrade.
I'd just like to point out That not everyone is able to smell the coffee.

I live only 15minutes from the centre of a major city (Dresden) and I'm unable to get broadband. I would kill for it, even UMTS misses my house by 1 block and satalite isn't a viable option either, Fastish download but still only ISDN upload and my major work involves huge uploading.

I solve that problem by going to a Pub in town to use their free WLAN to do my work. It's terrible, sometimes I have to stay until closing time, 5am, just to get it all done.

And just for the record, it's only 1.4MB - lol.

Chris
Why do you have so much in your posting? I don't understand what message you are trying to say beyond your written response. I know you are young and all the addition must be sending some message but I am a lot older than you and have no idea why you add all of this! Help me to understand this.

I have commented about passing over your postings due to your spelling and I also skip over this additional sig data since I don't understand what you are trying to communicate. I am not trying to be critical but trying to understand your individualism. Thanks

Isn't it the left-hand column with our av (and other information) the culprit for taking up a lot of vertical space (at least for some folks)? Some people have no sig, but have their pda, phone, etc + awards listed in the left-hand column, which makes for a large blank space where the sig would be.

Understood. However I know of several folks around here that I have to blow the across the cup with to get them to smell it. I'm not referring to people who can't get it as yet. One of my friends complained to me that their computer was slow so I went to their house to diagnose it. Nothing slow about the machine - they were still dialup and trying to download about 40MB of e-mail! They have availability of cheap broadband in their area so I put the coffee cup under their nose!

I know what you mean, I work with a lot of people like that. Have you ever tried to explain how to resize a photo to make it easier to send.

But as much as I like working from the pub, it is very frustrating.
