EDIT: I just thought of a good restriction for this site to prevent getting spam classifieds. You should have to post at least 10 posts or some figure like that, before you are allowed to post a classified.
Does this sound like a good idea, anybody?

I don't pay any attention to post in the Classifides if the person has a low post count.I have purchased a few items from Aximsite members but only if they have been around for awhile and post regularly.I have never had a problem this way.
The whole PS3 release is a disgrace IMO. They shoudln't have released it at all until they had decent stock levels and then we wouldn't have had so many issues.
But - they released it. They anticipated very low stock on release date and by most accounts had even less than anticipated.
I want a PS3 and this whole issue of people buying it and then selling it for profit annoys me as much as anyone. But America is a capitalist society. Who an I to determine who is allowed to make profit and how much?
Should we be making a rule that nobody is allowed to sell anything above current list value? Or that nobody is allowed to sell anything for more than they bought it for? Or maybe we should get you - F2504x4 - to determine what is a fair price for each item for sale? What about the buyers? Should you be telling them how much they're allowed to pay too? What about the father who REALLY wants one for his kid for xmas? You're going to tell him whether he's allowed to buy it?
Instead - we let the market decide. It's an economic principle that works well in the world as a whole, and I think it's adequately applied to Aximsite.
Personally, I choose not to buy a PS3 above list. But this is supply and demand, pretty basic economics, so as long as other people are willing to pay above list then it'll happen.
If they get out of control then certainly we may have to take action, but I don't see that happening right now.

I agree, but I do like the idea of saying that you can only post in the classifieds if you have a minimum number of other posts. This would probably stop a lot of our spammers.

First off by allowing these yaahoo's hawk there overpriced goods here , we are in a sense promoting profiteering, that does nothing to promote the image that Aximsite has.
Next the classifieds should be for items that are directly related to the Axims in some form or a mobile devices, that is what this site it about.
what is differance between the spammers that come here and post that they have phones etc etc for sale and someone that has bought a PS3 and is reselling it at mark-up over list?
These profiteers are making a profit at the expense of the webmaster by getting a free place to hawk their goods.
We can't police who makes a profit and who doesn't. It's really pretty silly to suggest that we do.
If someone gave me a PDA and then I sell it, am I making a profit? Or is that ok because it's a PDA? Or it's ok because it's just not a popular item?
I like having related items here. Should we allow people to list their cars? No. Should to go to the other extreme and allow them to list their Dell PDAs only? No. We have a working middle ground.
You take offense to someone making money off the PS3, that's ok. But I don't think we need to re-write the rules just for that.
But we'll monitor things and see how they progress.

I tend to agree with Howard. I don't see people selling their PS3 for a profit as the real problem (I personally think the mareket price of $600 is way too high, but that is just me).
I think the bigger problem is spammers who post links to commercial sites, etc... in the forums. There are already rules against that, but it happens anyway. That was the reason I thought a minimum number of posts would be a good idea. To prevent the spammers who create a username sent one message and never return.
ABF, if that were to happen, 60 messages is way too high. I'm thinking 10-15 messages before you could sell anything.

since when did et hijack your account?
@dogogldring- 15messages is much too little.. the lowest i am thinking is 30.

Nothin personal Howard but:
No its not silly to keep profiteers off this site, you should check the definition of a profiteer first,
reselling a used or a gifted items or even a new one does not make that user a profiteer.
Quote:
noun
profiteer
someone who makes excessive profit (especially on goods in short supply)
As to policing yes you can , its the same thing as keeping the spammers , scammers, and trolls from taking over this site, to which you guy's do a good job of, this is just another thing that we should not allow.
No its not a personal issue as you seems to be saying, its more of having morals ,
But who's to determine that a user posting his PS3 in the forum didn't get it as a gift? Then by your definition that's ok? How do you determine an excess profit? Is 20% ok? What about 23%?
We'll keep things are they are - unless we get a glut of them. Right now we have a couple of regulars selling PS3s and that's it.
If we need to review the rules we will.
Your feedback IS appreciated. And I dislike the fact that people bought the PS3 just for profit too. But I think the right thing for now is to leave it alone.

We have no plans to place limits on the sale price a seller sets in the Classifieds forum. If you don't think it's a fair price, don't buy the item. It really is that simple. As Howard says, it really is quite silly to suggest we can police this; who decides what is in short supply? Who decides what is an "unreasonable profit"?
You can put a particular seller on your ignore list if it annoys you that much. That's one of the great feature on the forums that people under-utilize.
Edit: Damn it, Howard, you respond too quickly!
