Aximsitex50icon An open letter to everyone

Hi

I used to find myself on this site 3 or 4 times a day reading different posts and very occasionally posting, however no longer. When I first bought my Ax it was this site that helped me get over the learning curve and up to speed (I'm an IT Tech by day) with this brilliant machine and if I ever want to know anything this is my first port of call.

However, things seem to have changed recently, I've never seen so many people fighting and bickering, if we'd all been in a bar it would have been very messy. Most of the fighting seems to be surrounding the use of an "unofficial" rom for the X50 / X51 line and the decision by the owner of this site to not allow discussion. Now, I had my say when the decision was taken to ban discussion or not and the owner listened to the opinions and made his decision. But now it seems to me that all people really want to do is argue and are using this as an excuse to pick a fight.

I agree there is less and less "new" stuff being found out about the Ax so I can understand the WM6 ROM being super-exciting-best-thing-to-happen-since-sliced-bread, but there are many people left here who are still asking questions and needing help - which is what I believe this site was founded for. Unfortunately (well, it's by decision more than anything) I don't post much, but having read the long string of, quite frankly, abusive messages (NOT pointing pointy finger of blame at anyone directly!) I find myself drifting away and coming here less and less. I've even found another forum, I dare not to mention the name, the posts are friendly, but it's just no where near as good as Aximsite. This is a sad sad time for Aximsite.

I ask, please, please, please - the rules are the rules, the Mods are the Mods and if you have issues please don't flame in open forum, play nicely, we're all here because we want to be.

I'm sure that if I'm feeling as down-hearted enough to risk getting flamed to death about this then there must be many others who are as well.

Kind Regards

Michael

Michael, this WM6 issue will blow over. Don't be affected by the negativity revolving around this issue. Many people feel as you do, and many agree with you. If you value the opinions of the mods and respect them to do thier jobs then this won't last long. Take heart, and Know that aximsite/mobiliysite consolidated is as good as it always has been!:)

Yeah, it did seem to get a bit negative around here but, you're right, it'll settle down.

Great post, MadMic.

I've moved the thread to the Site Suggestions forum, leaving a redirect from the X50/X51 forum.

We are also planning on revisiting the ruling on roms.

I am not changing my views based on pressure and the nasty emails I have received from a couple here, but I have looked into this a bit furthur and... well, let's just say, Martin will brief us on what changes are coming. :)

I love and support this community and will do all I can to keep it the best it can be. I will not put my personal assets and families well being on the line though.

So, it's quite simple, if I can get nailed for something happening here, it won't happen here. If it's gray, we will exercise caution.

More details soon.

Seems like a wise approach. Agreed ... should not come before more important personal matters - however this is a nice board and it would be nice to keep it running. No, the Ax isn't sold any more - but neither is the AMC Gremlin and I'll bet you can probably find active support boards for it. (Though I won't bother - I hated that model of car!) <grin>

Some seem to think that support for the Ax should just go away because it's not sold any more. Heck ... they'll be around for QUITE awhile I think - in all their versions.

I do NOT think support for the Axim should go away. That is why the forums still have the Axim related subject towards the top of the forum list with the HP iPaq boards just beneath them.

You guys have hit the nail on the head. Besides if someone wants to discuss the questionable ROM's, there is another forum for that.

Question to Chris and the Mods. We all know about the WM6 for X50v and X51v by now. My question is has MS or Dell come down on either of these two Roms? I would have thought that if they were going to take legal action, the sites would have been asked to take the links and all references to either ROM off the site.

Not that I am advocating open discussions about illegal ROM's, I'm just wonder if Dell and MS have made a position statement.
