Can we get an Archos Sub-Forum?

I had never even heard of these until a couple of days ago. Holy cow they are sweet. I figured my wife probably needs one of these for Christmas, so I bought her one. Anyway, I had no clue they had such a huge following. There have been a few posts about these recently. As this product continues to gain popularity these posts will need a good home. Chris, please consider it.

Sorry to revive a 2 month old thread, but I had to add this in:

My first MP3 player was an Archos... maybe they've changed with that 500 WiFi or whatever it is, but it had HUGE reliability issues. I didn't like it one bit, except for its excellent recording (which not many devices could do at the time, costing me premium of $600).

According to the PCWorld Reliability Ratings of 2007, Archos came in DEAD last. Nothing particular against the mp3 players, or about making a subforum for it, I'm just saying...

What do you mean by reliability? I hardly use it for mp3s. Mostly video.

mine broke 4 times. Three times because of the hard drive. PCWorld readers said the same thing.

I've had 3 of them AV380, 404, 704 wifi and never had any Harddrive issues. I use mine quite a bit but have recently been considering switching gears towards a Gigabyte M704 UMPC. Archos units are limited in what they can do and are often outdated before they reach your front door. A 1.2 GHz UMPC is adaptable and able to use my Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. (Which has little value since my Axim has been biting the dust.) Anyway cheers .
