Chris, like psionandy suggested, if it is possible to just close that whole "news" sub-forum to regular members, so at least they cannot post there. This will also limit the confusion.
My only worry is that, if you limit it to regular members, maybe it will deny access to WordPress as well?
Everyone will know, if it is news or blog entry, they cannot reply in forums. That simple. If they want to discuss something about it, they are free to start a new topic in any other category and discuss, or just comment in the blogs.
That sounds like a really good plan. I dont mind the way u had it setup, its just that one day i was on my axim and i found like 5 of these. I wanted to reply and i couldnt. It was the first time in my over 2 yrs at this site that something didnt work mobile.
Luckily i was on wifi so loading the extra pages didnt matter, but sometimes people are on cellphones/cellphone connections where they get charged for internet usage, and im sure these users would like a warning before they go to a pointless page.
Or maybe even a mobile version of the blog, like chris said earlier, would fix this altogether on the mobile version. There was never really a problem on the desktop version.

Yeah, mobile version of the blog would also be great, something that is plain, without bells and whistles, allowing people to comment from mobile devices. Honestly I rarely use my phone to check blogs, but if many others do, that would be the way to go.

The mobile version was fixed two days ago... does it not work for you guys? Ive tested on the Advantage and Tilt.

I think I'm finally getting the idea of how MobilitySite blog works (yeah, I'll admit I'm slow with some of this stuff ...). Do we have to register separately with Mobility Site, or should our Aximsite login work?

The problem with having the link and little description to go along with it is that many people just leave it alone. This way the story is reproduced right there and u get into reading it. But then u cant make the mistake of commenting there b/c the post is closed.

The mobile version of mobilitysite doesnt seem to work if you have the pocket ie hack to make it look like its really ie6 on xp.
Although aximsite always worked fine with this hack, i just tried it now and this hack is preventing the mobile version of mobiltysite to come up. This is still fine, b/c with software it is easy to toggle on and off the hack.
Plus now that i have opera i rarely use pie for desktop sites.

Yeah, is there a direct link to mobile? It looks okay and all on the iPhone, but I would love to have a mobile version. I always get the desktop version on the iPhone (ads slow it down to a crawl)

I started checking it on my blackberry, and it seems to connect just fine, although sometimes it takes a bit long time to get into articles. Especially older articles.

That's because faking the user agent is deliberately lying to the software plug-in that detects what browser you have... and i'm fairly sure the plug-in is different for blog style sites compared to the forum ones.
