Does Mobilitysite take too long to load / too many ads???
I use Firefox and it has a great feature showing where content is being loaded from, and how long it's taking. I just went to the home page of Mobilitysite and it took 43 seconds to load the page, largely due to the amount of ad content having to be loaded. In comparison, Facebook (which makes money through ads) took 8 second to load (I have a very fast high speed Internet connection, but Mobilitysite took 5 times longer).
I think that perhaps there are too many ads, or the content providers are too slow. I know 43 seconds isn't that long, but in the age of high speed connections, its reminiscent of dial-up (maybe Mobilitysite is trying to go Internet retro). Granted, sometimes it's quicker, but sometimes it's seems forever before I can even access any content. I've actually done what I used to do back in the day, click on the page, go do something else, and come back when it's done loading!
What's your experience, and what's your thoughts on the ever increasing ad content? Personally, if it continues, I'll look at incorporating ad blockers for this site (I already do that for Facebook). :rolling:
43 seconds with what kind of connection? I am not doubting that, but I have had other reports of slowness since the move. On my ADSL connection, my load times are under 2 seconds, but not everyone has high speed.
On the ads, there hasn't been a new ad introduced to the site in 6 months.'
One thing I have considered removing is that mybloglog thing with the little icon pictures. Sometimes they seem to load slow.
Another thing to consider and I am working on educating the editors, but sometimes they post a photo that is too large (file size).

I'm in Canada, it could be overall Internet connection speed. Since you're located closer to the source, it's quick. I'm on a connection that usually gets downloads around 3000 kb/s to servers all over the US.
Just tried Mobilitysite on my Roadrunner connection...about 16 seconds total load time, for whatever that's worth...

I do realize that distance is a contributing factor but if edge777 takes 43 seconds and I take about 5 seconds to load, there must be other factors that are more significant.
I load really fast. If it ever gets slow, it just quits all together, and says internet explorer cannot load webpage. Other than my internet just sloting it's self, I find everything fine.

It only hurt once, from beginning to end.
Peace means having a bigger stick then the other guy.
Loosing may do little to your credibility, but quitting will destroy it.
Aximsite loads for me in 2 seconds, I often get the message "the forum requires that you wait 20 seconds between searches........" sometimes as many as 3 times while trying to read through new posts quickly.
Mobility site takes up to 5 seconds to load.
Distance wouldn't appear to be a problem as I am pretty far from the server.
The route that your service provider uses to reach the server is more likely to be causing your problems.
Bottlenecks occur in a variety of places and effect different providers in different ways.
Just because you have a "Fast" connection to the first link in your ISP chain, it doesn't guarantee that the rest of the chain doesn't have damaged links.
eg: My company has two main servers, one in Miami and one in Oslo. I access and work on either server from Finland, Germany, Australia and even at sea via satellite with minimal or no delay. And only slightly slower using a UMTS conection.
Whereas our Miami office is barely able to interact with the Oslo server, they have to wait minutes for things to open. They even have problems using their own server from their homes. (this issue is being addressed)
So to sum up, the problem isn't at Chris' end it is somewhere between you and him. If it was at his end none of us would be able to connect quickly.
I use FireFox, and it takes roughly 10-15 seconds to load on a 5mb cable connection.....sometimes a little faster, sometimes alot slower (depending on time/day).
I'm not sure what the issue is - I've got extremely fast internet access from both the office and home - so it's not a bandwidth problem. It's a bit better today but I've also noticed a pretty long delay between pages lately. Probably just some tweaking after moving onto the new servers. I'm sure Chris will sort it out as always!
ok guys... I am moving servers AGAIN... we are getting on with one of the better hosts around from what others have told me...

Here's the thing though, I think the servers might have a little to do with it, but the initial page doesn't take long, searches don't take long. When I'm watching what's loading, and seeing it flip through all the different things, it's the ads. So, I don't think it's your servers, I think it's the ad servers (which often load differently due to their desire to track and record hits).
