I do a search for:
Unable to obtain a server assigned IP address Then I see a message that the search string is too short; it must be at least 3 words. Uhhh. That looks like more than 3 words.

Yeah, that's happened to me as well. I think that's just the way it is- makes no sense- just how it is. I've seen it on other boards I visit regularly, so maybe it's a software issue or some setting that needs tweaked in the VBulletin software.

It's not saying the string is too short, it is referring to the words. It is a keyword search and won't work with words that are less than 3 letters.
It is an annoying thing, but if you leave out the 3 letter words, it will generally find what you want.

Works OK with quotes
Just put the string into quotes like
"Unable to obtain a server assigned IP address" I just did it from my ax .

I guess it doesn't actually say the string is too short (I trusted the OP).
![]() Here is what it says: The search term you specified (to) is under the minimum word length (3) and therefore will not be found. Please make this term longer. It even gives the offending word "to"- guess I always skimmed over that info too.

Yep, I use quotes all the time when Googling to narrow down my searches. I also use the - (negative with a space in front and none after) frequently to remove things I don't want in the search. It works here too- I just tried it.

I simply wrote it off as a transition issue from aximsite to mobilitysite. Figured it would be worked out sooner or later.
The quotes did fix it, and it's interesting to know that simply 'removing' the short words will yield search results. I learned a lesson: to really read the error first.
