The new site theme and layout now has a "Show Printable Version" option at the bottom of each Forum page - a very welcome new feature, which overcomes old problems encounterd when printing out hard copy, such as clipping of the right hand edge (even with printer margins sey to zero).
Unfortunately this new feature is not currently available on Tutorial pages and it is more important to be able to print out hard copy of Tutorials than most other things.
Can "Show Printable Version" be added to Tutorial pages please ?
In all other respects then new site layout is superb !

Is it easier to have the tutorial area also in a downloadable format of .pdf such as ikehiker's wifi tutorial. That would be awesome. You could carry the file with you at all times. Or is this something that we should just go ahead and make on our own.
Originally posted by Gigi The only problem with that is that links would become inactive. I'm also not sure how graphics would appear.
I don't think that you are right on either issue. I have just printed out the User Guide for Ilium Software eWallet which is in *.pdf format. The graphics are fine. Although I have not actually tried any of the links, they all print in blue so it looks as though they should work too.
PDF is unusable on the PDA. Repligo has a windows reader so you can view and print on your desktop if you wish, but I sure as heck would love to be able to carry them on the road. PDA is too large of a format to put on a PDA.
So whats wrong with Repligo? That way if people actually want to carry the document around they can. PDF is not a very good format to do that. I think if we are going to go to the trouble, they should be in a dual use format. If we do them as PDF documents they will be of no use to anyone who wants to carry them around. Repligo "wraps" the document so you can read it on a PDA screen, while Acrobat is optimized for the desktop.
I had Acrobat reader on my Axim until I ended up buying Repligo. If you have never used it, you have to try it. It actually makes these documents readable on the PDA. I have a manual that was 15 megs as a PDF and 3 megs as a repligo document.
Later tonight I'll put up two tutorials, one as PDF and one as Repligo and give them both a shot. You'll be amazed at how much better the Repligo document works on both your desktop and your PDA.
Do you have a link to get Repligo ? Is it available as a trial ? To cut down a document from 15 Mb to 3Mb is awesome. I will certainly try it. I had never heard of it before your post.
I'm on my pda now, but if you look at the application reviews section of Aximsite, you'll see my review of Repligo and a comparison of it with Acrobat Reader.
The reader is free while the full version which can create them is about $30. Much cheaper than the $150 to $500 that Acrobat costs.
I'll distill one of the tutorials as a pdf and print one as a repligo document. Until then check out these sample documents that Cerience has on their website.
If you have the windows Repligo Reader this file will open right inside your browser like a PDF would. If you only have the PPC version, just save and copy over to your PDA and read it. This was created in about 30 seconds and I think I had the settings for images set to "crappy" instead of good so I think the pictures will look not too great when printed. If you guys are really interested in this, I can spend more time and make a better looking one. My settings are optimized for PDAs and I'll change them to make them print better. Either way its only abou 300k so you can see how small a format this is. I might get out my work computer and create a PDF to show you the difference.
To download the free reader, go to the RepliGo Viewers webpage and download the one you want. Also note, this page works with Pocket IE and there are CAB installs available for those who are viewing on their Axims.
