Some of you may have noticed I've started several rants in the "tell dell" arena. My attempts to actually get the Axim continue and my ire has waned. I thought it appropriate that I delete some of the more vitriolic threads I'd started. However, I can't seem to do it.
I go to my first entry (where I've started a thread) and go to edit. There is a box which says I can delete, but when I try it comes back and says I'm not authorized to do this.
Nope. Once a thead is started, you must request a moderator to delete the thread. You can delete individual posts though.

Chris,
Thanks.
But, therefore, one can't delete their posting if it's the first one.
I read this as contra to what it says when I go to "edit."
Which is the intent of site administration? I mean is this something I should check back on later or just forget about?
Bruce
The problem is that if you delete the first post of a thread that others have responded to, you delete the whole thread. You don't want to removed others comments do you? ;):p
I'm not trying to "change" any policy, just to find out what it is.
When I go to "edit" is asks me if I want to delete a posting, it even warns me that doing so may delete the entire thread but it allows me to say yes, delete. This is exactly the opposite of what Chris has just told me, and what the site permits.
I recognize that deleting the whole thread would delete postings made by others and I recognize there is an issue in that.
I guess if I've started a thread which becomes moot I might consider deleting it even if others have contributed. I'm not advocating this, I'm just trying to figure out what the administrators want because what it says under "edit" seems, to me, to be the exact opposite of what the site is actually doing.

That cool, I wanted to let you know why you can't delete the post. Others may not like their posts deleted by someone else.

But it still doesn't allow it does it? It asks you to login as someone who has rights to do so.

Remember this board is a software package that Chris bought. vBulletin has some features that we don't use here at Aximsite.com. You see things like this everywhere.
Originally posted by BruceP Thanks, I'm happy. I understand what the adm has and wants to do. Having cast my comments I'll leave them to fester or flurish on their own!!

Hey I have to look at my posts where I said the Raiders would kill the Bucs in the Superbowl.
I agree Mike. But, a thread might simply become moot because of new information. While I'm not going to deny some emotion in some of my posts any wish to delete was not based on that but on the fact that the issue had been resolved ,or that the issue had been redefined. These are the same threads which will fade away naturally, I just thought I'd hurry them along!
Just make a request to delete a thread and we can make a specific judgement call on whether it's appropriate or not, case by case.;) Some threads take on a life of their own.
You can always edit your post down to a smiley if you want to retract out of sheer embarrassment ... not that this is applicable to you. Or post a followup that explains the changes, and then write an essay on what you've learned.
