Yes, so do I DennisFranz....and with a lot of the Java-enabled chat rooms out there now, you can have an IRC chat-room integrated into a website. This way, if you are a big IRC client user, you can still use your everyday IRC client (like mIRC). But if you're a newbie, and have no clue what IRC is....then you can simply click the "Live Chat" button on the website, and be taken to the room (simply asks you for a username). Good idea though, but it might take away from some of the retention of information here on the forums. Personally, I feel like more questions would be asked in the Live Chat than on the forum, meaning that in the future these questions would constantly be repeated due to the fact that one could not simply search the forum and find the answer.
I am looking into onsite chat ideas, but I am not liking the idea. In researching this I have only found the same complaint, SERVER PROCESSOR INTENSIVE. Meaning the processor that we work HARD already daily, would probaly go on strike. We gotta keep the CPU union happy.....
I am not saying no yet, but it looks bleak...

I wouldn't have AXIMSITE host it. I agree with ya, I bet the server has much work.
I mean something like just announcing a meeting place on mIRC.
On their list of servers hey have many choices and once in the program, it seems like the list is even larger. I have never hosted or really gone deep enough to look at running a channel honestly with the possibility of chanel takeovers etc... I think mIRC would be the best choice though.
possible or not....I don't know (?). But, if it's going to cost Chris any more cash to do something like that, I wouldn't want him spending his money on it unless we donated.
You might have misunderstood what I was saying....I don't know...but it might cost CHRIS money to pay for something like that kind of service (to offer it). I donated to Chris using PayPal....I wouldn't feel comfortable for him spending anymore cash offering something like a chat room.
I know if you're a member on chat service, it would be free for you. But, to set something like that up, wouldn't it cost $$??? Honestly, I don't know (?).
I am still researching this, my only true concern is my server and it's stability. If anyone knows of any solutions to look into, post details.

Here are a few links that I have collected over the months. Although, like I told you the other day, I have not personally integrated a chatroom into a website before. From what I have read however, if you are using one of these Java-based IRC clients to connect to an existing IRC server, it will not hog the web server as much. The problem seems to come when you are hosting a private IRC server on the same machine as the web server. Then it is a big bandwidth hog. These Java-based ones are just kinda like a "gateway" to the existing IRC servers, so might be worth checking out. Here are some links:
