Product Ratings that Really Work
We have a group of folks here that are all testing items and you can find information on a product here or there if someone gets the mood to post... but:

1) There is no way of knowing if the person posting has a vested interest in the technology they are reviewing,

2) We have no real way of comparing the various technologies to one another - ie. which GPS is the best, which really works?

Hope that your latest announcement changes all this as not having to sift through all the bs out there to find what really works and what is garbage is one of the reasons that I signed onto this site.

Hello rlsinchs,

Thank you for your valuable suggestion. Our latest update of review section should help you compare different products. We will also be doing more comparison reviews such as three part screen protector article.

Stay tuned!

One of the purposes of the new package we have installed is to allow for users and staff alike to post their review/opinions of a porduct. The only vested interest that any of the staff here at Aximsite.com has in any product is the fact that some items are kept by the reviewer. For the most part all reviews done by the staff are objective and not influenced anyway by the vendors.

Once the script is modified to allow the follow on reviews from the original to be posted on in descending order, I am going to allow furthur reviews for a product. Right now if one of our Reviewers spends hours on a thought out review on a product (Ex. Linksys WCF12 Wireless CompactFlash Card: ) it is posted. Then along comes a member that has an opinion ( reviews have to be a min. of 25 characters ), then it is posted on top of the original review. That is unfair that the writer that spends hours on their review get pushed to the back for a comment/short review. I am working towards a solution. So for now I have it where only one review can be posted. We are far from done here.

There is a comparision mode in the new package. SEE HERE

Time will make this review engine one of the best of any Pocket PC site....I am fairly sure....

Chris,

Thanks for the response, please know that my comments were meant as suggestions and I was not implying that your colleagues have a vested interest. Rather, my concern regards that which might arise from a company/employee reviewing a product they are involved with producing or marketing. At Amazon, reviews can come from (at least they used to) the author, publisher, publicist and agent of a particular book - hardly a group of people who are likely to be unbiased.

Additionally, the ability to indicate whether a review is helpful or not, is also a valuable insite. If all who read the review give it a thumbs down, that too tells the reader something.

As stated in the past, this is a very fine site, especially in so short a period of time.

BTW,

Also like the format of the rating system. Like the fact that we can see which are rated the highest in a visual format - will this include a bang for the buck rating too - ie. there may be a best product but it may cost much more than a number two that also has cost going for it?

Thanks again,

RLS

No... I didn't take it as an implication, but I did feel the need to defend that. I am getting headaches trying to figure out the direction I want to go with the reviews. We have several Reviewers ( not including myself, as I am not a great reviewer yet ) that do an exceptional job and I want to showcase their reviews and stil have the opportunity for members to debate, comment, or just talk about their expeirences also. The package I was high on that I currently moved to probaly will go away as it does not accomplish all the tasks I want it to.

As I read and post here now, I am researching programs and other website methods. I will keep all informed as I make descisions.

Thanks for everyones inputs....
