Okay, SD for dummies, please...

So I'm having pretty much the same problem that many have had with my X30 - the SD card is not being recognized and the usual fixes aren't helping. So I know I need to get a card reader and try to do a fix on the PC, and maybe use the PC to recover the important files, and then re-format the card and reinstall everything. Phew. We'll see how it goes. My real question is, for future reference, how do I backup my SD card? And I really need the dummies explanation here. I have Sprite Backup and have read in a recent review online that buried deep in the program is a way to backup the card, but it didn't explain how. Anyone done this? And if not, should I spring for MobSync, or something else?
Also, any hints on recovering lost files if I can't fix the card? I'm especially concerned about my Checklist files since I have several lists there that I can't recover, and also my Notes where I keep lots of important random info that for some reason did not sync with Outlook, even though I had set Active Sync to do this.

If you have a card reader on your PC then you can just copy the data from your card to the PC as a backup. Alternatively as you say you can use sprite backup... but maybe just copying off the card reader will be faster given that the axim is only USB1.1

Not sure about your other questions though I am sorry.

Cheers

You can configure backup of storage cards by going into the Backup Options (you must be in the Advanced mode). Go to Options - Backup Options - Exclusion Rules then UNcheck Persistent Storage. Using Mobsync won't help you with your problem; it just allows syncing files to locations other than My Docs in main memory.

To recover files, I have used Handy Recovery in the past. There is a free, older version available.

Awesome!! I bought Handy Recovery after trying out the trial...didn't see an older version, but the trial showed the files I needed, so it was worth the $30. Thanks for the answers and thanks for saving me hours of wasted time trying to recreate and recover files!
