some card advice
Hi .. I've just purchased a new camera which I need to buy sd ram for, all in preparation for a trip to Australia for a month. why are you posting here you ask, well i want to make sure I have plenty of storage and have i also just acquired a new axim 50v and the loan of a 1gb cf.

my idea was to buy a 1gb sd and use the axim to copy from sd to cf as needed. from reading the forums there seems to be a few issues with the axims suddenly deciding not to read expansion cards, now the last thing i want is to have a months worth of pics disappear.

so is there a procedure or a brand or memory for minimizing potential loss or should i scrap the idea of using the axim until i'm more confident with the resiliency and just buy 2 sd cards instead ?

I used the SD Ultra II 2gb & the CF Ultra II 2gb from sandisk on my x50v without any problems at all. Now I have a X51v and it works fine as well.

But keep in mind that copying large files between the sd and cf card using the Axim as the reader and writer is like watching grass grow. Not bad if you have the time to pass with 6-pack in hand...But I would invest in a usb2.0 card reader and bring a laptop or something.....

That's my 2 cents....

Unfortunatly Telengard is right, and especialy on the X5 its like watching nothing happen very slowly.

Welcome to Aximsite, Jack!

I would agree with Telengard; transfers from SD to CF will definitely take awhile regardless of brand of memory. Besides, even the best brands (e.g., Lexar) have been known to fail or have problems.

Try the card reader option as suggested, or install Card Export II which allows your pc to see the memory cards in your Axim as virtual drives. Alternatively, you can invest in a photo bank device to save upload your files to each day. In addition, you can burn CDs from your card at photo stores.
