Major Newbie with a Dumb SD Card question
I just got me a new X51v Axim and only know about two uses for it. I just spent a week learning the basics. I have always thought of myself as tech savy, but found out oooh no I'm not. Can anyone tell me (as if I were 10 years old) how to load, remove or edit Info on my 512 MB SD Memory Card? Thank You.

Well Tom, Congrats on the Aixm and Welcome to Aximsite! I a not sure I understand your question. But I will give it a shot and if I am way off just let us know and we can try and help.

If you are looking to just put files on your SD card, like music, Pictures, Movies, documents, etc. You can do that through ActiveSync by clicking EXPLORE then MYPOCKETPC then SD CARD. From there you can just cut and paste or drag files form your desktop to your "SD CARD". If they are really big files however, like movies, then I would recomned a card reader as it will be much faster.

If you are looking to install programs to your SD Card that can be done too. When you are installing software it will ask you if you would like to "install to the default location", click no and select SD CARD from the pull down menu. Easy as that.

Good Luck~

What if I want to activesync files and folders directly into my SD without my having to manually move them? Is there a way to do that?

thanks (sorry I sort of hijacked the thread)

These are great questions, don't apologize for asking! FlyAcl gave great advice as usual. Also check out the tutorials. Go to the top of your screen and click Resources, then tutorials. Let us know if you have more questions.

Much Obliged
Thank You so much for the Help. I got myself some files downloaded on the Card. I really appreciate it.

One more (?) please. I used the back up program on the Axim initially trying to figure things out out about the SD Card and actually backed up a bunch of stuff and it took up a lot of room on the card.

Can I reverse this or remove the back up data on the card?

Do the same thing you did to put files on the card (explorer in ActiveSync) or use the file explorer on your Axim and just delete the file. Good Luck~

Yes! You should have plenty of room on your host PC's hard drive to make a backup, so run the backup utility from ActiveSync. The backup to card function is useful mainly if you are going to make some changes to your PDA (such as adding a new program) when you are away from your host PC and you want to be safe. Just use file explorer to locate the file and delete it, if not needed. Alternately, you can copy the file to your desktop first.

Sync files to SD card?
I have a similar question.

I have been able to sync outlook data, files, etc to my Axim x51 using ActiveSync 4.0.

However, when I use the "explore pocket PC" and file sync features in ActiveSync the SD card does not show up, so I can't transfer large files straight from my PC to the SD card. Is this normal? Shouldn't I be able to transfer straight from PC to SD card without first having to save on the Axim?

TIA, any info is much appreciated.

Yeah, you should. Lots of people have been reporting problems with memory cards showing up using WM5. Do a search, you will find some more info.

As a side note, regardless of the problems with WM5. Large files don't transfer well through ActiveSync. I would highly recomend a card reader. Cheap and 10x as fast as the cradle (usb 1.1 vs. 2.0) Good Luck~
