Lost your Built-In Storage? How to fix it on an X5.

Hi Everyone,
I have just been through the issue of loosing my Built-In Storage on my X5 from a file error after a soft reset. I have recovered it and I thought I'd tell everyone how I did it.

My BIS was completely gone. Not available in the Memory in the Control Panel and not showing in File Explorer or with Resco Explorer. I had done hard resets, soft resets and whatever else eveyone else had recommended on the web but I still couldn't see it. Seemed the only option was to send it to Dell.

Firstly, I downloaded the A04 download from Dell's site for the X5 and I copied it over to a compact flash card as per this site:
http://tom61.arcadecontrols.com/axim_bootloader.html I then followed the process he advised and restored my PPC2003 back to PPC2002 via his method. But alas the BIS was still not present.

I then did the normal upgrade to PPC2003 from the CD I got from Dell and during the process it advises that it will format the BIS during the install and all data will be lost so I let it rip and .....IT WORKED . After the pda reboots once it has loaded the ROM it reforamts the BIS. Working perfectly now, all there again to be used. Obviously it was a software issue not letting Windows see the memory in the device.

Hope that helps you all if you have the same issue with your X5. I'm not sure if that would work with an X3 or an X50, but it's worth a try I suppose.

Email me if you have any questions here: pgp66 at yahoo.com

Cheers
Paul
