Sd Card Question
Hey everyone i just bought a new sandisk sdcard 1 gb and i poped it in my digi cam and it showed me 1040 pics so i went to format it and now it shows me 520.It doesnt make sence to me that once formatted it chops the memory in half, could there be a problem with the card or the camera or something? Does that sound right to anyone? I mean it doesnt bother me much because 520 is a hell of alot of pics i wont even use half of that but it just bothers me that when i formatted it it just split in 2,if it went from 1040 to like 800 or so i wouldnt be stressing it but half the original size is just ridiculous.Any thoughts would be appreciated tnx.

Maybe you changed the quality of pictures the camera takes.
The number of pictures a card can store is based on the quality (size) of the picture.

What quality is the camera set to?

Edit:
Your manual should show you how many pics are expected for each resolution.
It might show it for a 128 MB or 256 MB card, so you'd just have to multiply by 2 or 4.

Take a look here:
http://www.thesourcecc.com/estore/le...language=en-CA

Says you should get about 400 pictures with a 5 MP on a 1 GB card.

The number of pictures remaing will change as you take pictures. It does it based on an average size. Not all pictures take that size. They could use more or less space.

My 8 MP on highest quality will take approx 250 pictures on a 1 GB card.

Edit:
Highest JPG quality.
My highest setting (TIFF) will only give me about 40.
