A 4GB MICRODRIVE FOR LESS THAN $50 ... But is it compatible?
Hey guys. I was wondering whether or not the 4 GB Hitatchi CF Microdrives in the Apple Ipod Minis are compatible with Axim x50,x51, etc. Can anyone who has a mini, take it out and try it? If so, it would be great, because the broken minis go for <50 on ebay, so if yours comes and has a functioning microdrive, that is an amazing deal.

at the begginning they worked. But then the manufacturers realised that people were craking them open for the drives and locked the OEM devices so they don't work in PDAs

Hey, could you access the busted mini's microdrive in a standard CF reader? That would make a dandy external/scratch disk.

No, because they are locked to only work in an iPod (or whatever similar device they came from).

One idea: get an iPod mini memory card and an iPod mini with a bad memory card and piece them together. Done right, you'll end up with a working iPod for cheap.
