Difference between S.D. and C.F.II
Hi there, im pretty much new to the "PDA World" and new to this site. I just purchased a Axim X51V, and have a question about the difference between the two slots on top. One is for SecureDigital and the other for Compact Flash,(right?) just curious as to what the difference is between the two. I can pretty much put the basics of it together, but dont understand why someone just wouldnt put a 2 GB S.D. card VS a 1 GB S.D. and 2 GB C.F. Is it more of a convenience for those who have both and need to access both through PDA? anyways, i plan on using my Axim mostly for personal info. and music. Which card would be the best way to go S.D. or C.F.? and why? Sorry if this is a repost for many, i tried doing a search and couldnt find the answer to my basic question. Thanks in Advance.

K

SD and CF are just different formats. You can do pretty much the same with both slots (since it is an SDIO slot).

It is just whichever you prefer. I use the CF slot to see pics from my camera that uses a CF card, I use the old 256 card from my camera to hold movies, and for my CF GPS.
I use the SD for a mem card to hold my audio books.

personally, I use the CF for programs and data storage and the SD card to swap music, movies/videos, and pictures. But I also have a 1 gb CF that I transfer my dl's tv shows onto. SD is easier to swap out and most cases have a built in compartment to store it. Looking at getting more SD cards since my Camera, MP3 player and axim use them and I only have 2 x 1GB's.

Can you have both cards in, and in use, in the Axim at the same time?

Yes. You can use a CF/CFII and a SD simultaneously.

First welcome to this site. You will find very friendly and helpfull Axim users here. They are willing to help with their experiences and advise. In addition no question is a bad question.

Second yes you can use both CF and SD cards at the same time. I have both and do it daily. I carry pictures, data, backups and non pda files from my pc on both cards at verious times.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

Do CF and SD use different amounts of power? Just wondering if one would be better to use for more frequent access.

CF tends to use more power. That's particularly true of MEMS (most CF type 2) due to its high operating voltage.
