The Possibilities Are Endless!!!?

Ok, so this is my new obsession. I found this "portable media player" by a company called Vosonic. You can view the player here.

Since it takes and powers any regular "Travelstar" sized laptop hard drive (Standard 2.5"), this once again opens up the continuing "iPod as a mass storage device for the axim" controversey.

My eventual goal is to be able to connect it directly to my x50v (via a CF usb card or something of the like) and play large video files "On the fly". However, even if I can't do that, due to the "vp6230"'s myriad of interface options, I could theoretically pick a movie off of a 100gb drive and transfer it over to an SD or CF card to play on my Ax.

My Questions:

1.) Everything sounds and looks good, but I haven't heard much about the Taiwanese company, Vosonic. Has anyone else? If so, good, bad etc...?

2.) What do you think of the viability of the storage ideas I am proposing?

VERY interesting. Somebody is selling one with a 100GB HDD for a mere $369. Better than iPod! (apologies to fanboyz)
the Ratoc CF/USB host adapter does not list the Vosonic as a compatible item, so the risk would be yours.

A few people out there know about Vosonic. I can't say I have any experience with them, but some of their products are just showing up on the radars of places like newegg and epinions. Just google vosonic and reviews, and dig around. I would check the grammar of the people reviewing (in case they're planting good reviews), but wouldn't put too much stock in anything at this point.

As for your mass storage question, if you're just looking for mass storage for a PDA, check into the Ratco and get an external drive bay for the hard drive (all shapes and sizes). Power is definitely an issue, but if that becomes a real problem, you may want to consider any portable media player is going to have a much higher drain on the battery if you're pulling information from it through it's USB connection (unless there's a specific design scheme to it).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if you're starting to tote around that much data aren't you're looking to turn your PDA into more of a portable computer? If so, you might want to read up on portable computers and check into some of their issues and resolutions.
