Seagate 8 GB CompactFlash Photo Storage Hard Drive ( ST68022C-RK )
Hi ,
Can someone please tell me if this is compatible with a dell axim x51v?

Could it be used to store music/videos too?
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...18533?n=172282

Thats the link I found for the CF card.

Thanks

I got it last week.
It works in my X51v.
I have a bunch of MP3's and movies loaded up. No problems so far.

I got it on the cheap. Opened up an Amazon card...$30 off, then used the $40 rebate.

I just got my card today from the Amazon deal. I've tried copying some MP3s from my 2GB SD card over to the CF card, but it's painfully slow (a few minutes for just one mp3!). Should I get a USB reader and use that to copy files? Is this a limitation of the Axim? It's certainly not acting like a 3600RPM drive should.

Also, there is a clear high pitched whine coming during usage - is this normal?

Yes you need a CF USB card reader. Using ActiveSync is slow and always has been for large files. MP3's amd movie files would be an example. Using a card reader would also save of your battery time.

I just got the 8gb Seagate today for my x50v...quickly installed...no whine sound...surprisingly quiet...so far seems good.

For those interested, I installed a piece of clear packing tape with small piece doubled on end to ease removal and it is unnoticable and works perfectly.

Regarding use of usb card reader...How do you assure that file formats for wma or mp3 are converted before trying to use the card in the axim?

Well I wasn't using ActiveSync, I was transferring directly from the SD card. Anyone have any experience doing this?

Else where on this site is a ActiveSync trick to keep both CF and SD cards from being lost to the operating system. It has worked for me 100% since following the instructions listed there. Give it a try.

You dont need to do the active sync conversion wma and mp3 are already the right format for the pda and your movie files are already the right format also providing that you encoded them for the pda.

Yeah, I put some tape on the drive as well. I created a flap that goes into the sd slot. Works well.

I use a USB 2.0 reader to transfer files.
I've got 4 or 5 movies in there plus my music collection.
Speed-wise it's OK. I mean it's not a fast drive but I get acceptable speeds. Definitely tons better than activesync. So this is the way to go.

I don't hear any high pitched noise on mine, at least not yet.

I posted in the other thread about this product that I received it on monday and its been good. no high pitched sounds. I am having a problem transferring wma protected songs to it. I can't use so far with yahoo music or other music subscription services. looks like it will be used for movie storage and unprotected music files and photos. also periodically disappeared in my axim have to do a soft reset.

In Amazon.com its 194 and has a $40 rebate, or is it 194 with the rebate? Kinda hard to believe its cheaper than a hitachi 6gb even on ebay.

Rebate is expired, used to bring the price down to $154

It is great... UPS dropped it off yesterday... It is a lot faster than I thought it would be. It plays my 1.5Gb DVD (divx) rips as good as it would off my SD cards. and when playing MP3's the battery life is much better than I thought it would be. Well worth the $154 spent...
