First of many
You're going to be so glad I found you

I'm looking at cards on TigerDirect and need to pick your collective brains.

1. TigerDirect reputable & safe?

I'm not sure how I want to run apps and store data. My train of thought is ...

* Application data (appts, contacts, tasks) from the device.
* Regular/most used apps from the device
* Trial apps on a card
* Music on a card
* Audible books on a card

I'm not going to listen to both books and music at the same time, so it makes sense to me.

2. If I decide to go with a trial or software test, will I go crazy trying to move it from a card to the device?

The prices at TD seem to be lower for SD, slightly higher for CF.

3. Does it make sense to invest in a 2G CF for apps, and a couple of 1G SDs for books & music? (There's a PNY 1G SD for $35 after rebate.)

TIA
Lisa

1. You'll find wildly varying opinions about Tiger Direct. In general though I'm sure they're a safe bet.

2. I'd recommend installing the vast majority of your apps onto your storage card. As a rule I default to installing to SD.

There are security implications here too. If you have sensitive data on the device there are benefits to keeping it in the main memory, not on storage card. If you password protect the device and lose it, someone can only do a hard reset to use the device and this will obliterate all your data in main memory. However, data on the storage card is still accessible. To secure data on a storage card you need to use third party encryption software.

Moving apps from main memory to storage card is easy. Just uninstall and reinstall

Lisa, one of my favorite on line stores is www.Newegg.com. Very reputable and safe. Tiger Direct isn't bad, but in my opinion not as good as Egg.

I put almost all my apps on a card. Basically I put all apps on my 1G sd, and all movies/mp3s on my 4G cf. I store very little on main memory. Read the tutorials, there's an excellent one on memory.

Look at getting a backup program like Sprite, sunnysoft, and spb has a trial version (I think). Backing up is very important.

You can't put an app on a card then move it. You have to uninstall then reinstall. Certain few apps run best in main memory, the other 99% can go on a storage card. CF cards are cheaper than SD cards.

Hope that gets you started.

Lisa:

Nothing negative 'bout Tiger Direct but, Staples has the same pricing and free delivery too.

Even rebates of up to $20 per SD or CF memory cards.

Welcome to the forums at aximsite.

Welcome!

I've used TigerDirect several times without any complaints. They are a division of Global Computing, whom I use for corporate purchases.

I currently use my 2gb CF card for all storage, documents, movies, audio, applications, etc. That's why I chose a CF card with a fast access speed (50x).

Because it is earier to remove than a CF card, I use my SD cards for temporary storage and transferring files from my PC and digital camera.

Enjoy!

Thanks guys for the help. I've got it figured out for now, and used your tips to p/u 1G cards (1 of each) for around $35.
