Hitachi 4GB Microdrive Misbehaving?
I recently purchased a 4Gb Hitachi microdrive for use in an X51. It has been doing some strange things and I was curious if others have had similar experiences.

When I first plugged the drive in, it appeared to be working fine. However, after a few days I wasn't able to store data on it from my PC via ActivSync. I didn't have anything important on it at the time so I deleted everything and it seemed to let me store information again. A few days later, the same thing so I deleted everything again. I also noticed that after I deleted everything, if I checked to see how much space was bing used the system told me that roughly 600 meg was still in use which is odd since I had just deleted everything.

I finally decided to format the card. After I formatted the card I had all 4 GB free again. Having little confidence in the card I started to use it to store music only figuring, if I had to format the card again I could simply let Windows Media Player synch back up all my music. After I formatted the card I synched up a few ripped CDs. No problems. I tried a few more and started getting nasty messages about Windows Media Player could not synch the files because they couldn't be played. I'd format the card again and try again. This time I'd get a few tracks synched and I'd get the same errors. I'd format the card again. This time I'd get a hundred tracks synched and I'd start to get the same errors.

Has anyone else been having problem like this with this type of microdrive?

I have a Seagate 8gb micro drive CFII card. I have had it for a month now and it has performed without any issues. I use it to watch movies and store my back up scanned images folders from my desktop pc. I would consider your drive as defective and ask for a replacement. Make sure they know that you have reformatted it several times and the results after each reformating. JMHO.

make sure you create a "My Documents" folder on the microdrive and load all yor files and data into the folder not in the root directory and when you delete files from it with your pc make sure you empty the trash before you remove it from you pc
