Sync SD and/or CF Cards to desktop?
(Axim X51v WM5)
Is there either an existing tool or separate app designed to set up memory card synchronization directly with desktop? If I designed ActiveSync, this would be built in so one could set it up separately from main memory.

Thanks

I use a utility called MobSync. Works along side of ActiveSync. You can tell MobSync what addtl files/directories you want to sync with PC & PPC. Great utility! I use it occasionally to backup my cards, but it really slows down activesync, especially if you have large files, which I why I have it set to backup weekly/monthly.

MobSync is from a Japanese developer, so you have to search for english info about it.

I downloaded it at pdagold.com

I have a card reader that was fairly cheap... I just copy the CF and SD card to a folder on my hard drive.

Actually, I think Sprite Backup backs up your CF & SD cards.

Unfortunately with the new ActiveSync 4.1, Mobisync 0.9xx freeware version crashes everytime you disconnect your Axim, they now have a 1.xx version available that works with ActiveSync 4.1 but it's shareware and only works for 30 days, you have to pay for it now.. I hate it when they do that, I think they should keep it freeware.. oh well..

I had a similar problem with mobsync .9.4.87, but under options place a check to enable the "Automatically end when devices disconnect" option. After this no problem.

Good luck.

SyncToy cannot access the PPC.

I am looking for the ability to save files from my SD Card to my desktop and have them sync with the PPC, just like ActiveSync does with it's onboard files. Palms do this. It doesn't matter if the item is on an expansion card or not, it gets checked against a copy of the file during every sync. If a file is changed on the device or the computer, the files are syncronized.

I don't know why PPC's don't include a subfolder with the contents of the expansion card for syncronization. This seems like a severe oversight.

Agreed, you would think MS has thought of this from day one or have had many complaints on this issue and yet, with tons of AS releases we haven't seen any changes to add this feature.

99.9% of PPC's have expansion card slots, so there's got to be a reason why MS hasn't added this feature, I wonder what that is.

We should do up a petition on this feature and send to MS to request it in their next AS release.

I tried MobSync. It's Perfect. It even lets me exclude folders so that i am only syncing what I want to sync. It looks at files on both the PC and the PPC. If it sees a change, it syncs them. Thanks for the info!!
