any portable card readers w/ built in cable
looking for a card reader and would like to find one with a built in/retractable cable for travel. needs to be able to handle larger cards (have 2gb SD now, may get larger CF).

if none with the cable option i want, please recommend others that would be a good buy (about $15-30). there are so many out there, i dont know what is cheap junk or not.

i saw a 15/1 reader at target by dana elec for $25...is this a decent company?

thanks

How about the Sandisk 12-in-1 one? USB2.0... but it is $40.

How can there possibly be 12 or 15 types of media, much less the need to read/write them? I picked up two USB 2.0 card readers: SD & CF. They are both very small and cost less than $15 each. I do have a 8in1 or some such ratio somewhere around here that I hardly ever use.

My advice: Get only what you need; get USB 2.0; spend as little as possible; get it from a bricks and morter store so you can easily return it if it doesn't perform as advertised.

good card readers
I agree, if youre only using sd and cf go with small individual ones. I have an sd drive that looks like a usb flash drive with a slot in back for the card. very handy and works great with my 2gb
sd reader

There are also similar models for cf.

Buf if you will use a multi reader you should check out this puppy, 23-in-1, usb2.0 hub, with built in cord:
cool multi reader

in fact i'll probably get something like that if i get cf cards

And that 23in1 is only $14.99 at newegg.com! I think that's a good price, most readers look like they run around $20 and don't have usb2.0 hubs built in!

Good luck with your search and keep us posted with what you end up getting.

thanks guys

that zonet one looks great...not really too big, and the price is right. looks like it didnt get good reviews on newegg though (but i am a risk taker). hmmm...maybe ill see if anyone else comes up with anything.

AKAJohnDoe...i know there arent really 15 or 23 types of media (they include each variation of the media but it fits in the same slot as is brother (ex. memory stick, memory stick pro, mem stick yadda yadda yadda.)

i really need SD/CF/microdrive(maybe) camera is memory stick, and XD would be nice too (since those seem to be the next type of card...who knows what device i may get needing one of those) the rest is just fluff, nice to have stuff incase i run into a situation where i may need.

thaks

It costs more because it is so fast and reliable. I have seen it for up to $50 at BestBuy... Fortunately it costs just $27 at Amazon now.

I bought one from Hong Kong
Mini ver.2 multi slot card reader
this one is the best I ever used
supports 4GB CF and SD, it even can read "dead" cards
highly recommended
