Sandisk ULTRA II High Performance 8.0 GB CF Card

Does anyone know if this card will work with X51V I live in Canda and so far up north I sometimes think the Polar bears are closer to the computer stores than I am. The closest Staples and compusmart dont even carry microdrives so I would need to oerder online but I would hate to spend alot of money on something that doesnt work with my new PDA. Amazon.com has it for 369.99 U.S. right now.

Works fine in my X50v. Feels a little slower than expected (a lot slower than my Transcend 4GB SD), especially for writing, but the increased storage space is definitely worth it. Welcome to club 12GB :approve:

Wow! That's more than an x51v. Have you considered a microdrive? The 8GB Seagate MD goes for about $150 on Amazon.

I've considered the pros and cons, and ended up deciding MDs are not for me.

I have a 6GB MicroDrive but copying MP3 or large video files onto it just takes too long, so I replaced it with fast(er) CF cards. Neither price, ruggedness nor power consumption had anything to to with this (they were fine) - write speed in a card reader did it.

Thanks for all the info guys and I didn't think of Costco closest one to me is 3 hours away but will check it out. Hey and it only gets down to -40 like once or twice a year now a days I remeber when it lasted 3 weeks 20 years ago that was nasty :hide: now its like -16 or +30 in the summer which for the states people means it was around 100.

After having tons of problems with my x50vs I am now owning my 5th device.
I am using a Transcend 8GB CF Card in my x50v. It works, but not very fast, average writing speed is 0.092 MB/s. The newest german ROM is A02, released 9 months ago...

I was wondering that the card worked instantly. I had one "unrecognized card" error with a previous x50v, so now I am awaiting it on my "newest" device.

Best Buy has them for $500: Tigerdirect.ca has the Seagate 8 GB for $215.

Where are you...

Dooortmund? Boah, ey! I have family not far from Dortmund. :)

And an 8GB Transcend just like you. Almost full, too. The write speeds of these cards aren't the best like you say. It does not bother me in the Axim because I use the card mostly to read files. Read speeds are OK. But copying MP3s and AVIs from the PC to the card in a card reader is slooow. Then again, the 6GB MicroDrive is twice as slow.

My card is an 80x. Do yo have the same or is it the newer 120x?

hehe, nice, I am looking forward to the football WM because I can see the stadium from my Window =)

I have got the 80x Version because I thought that the PDA would not be able to access the 120x card at full speed, but I did not expect that it would be THAT slow.

Copying files to the card in a card reader is at 6.91 MB/s, this is ok.

I realize the slow card while video benchmarking or file browsing, the internal storage is faster when benchmarking video.

I would believe the MD's are energy hogs also.

Staying with no moving parts. :hide:

Copying 700MB (each) video files I get 7.8MB/s from this card. Copying 6.5MB (each) MP3 files I get 5.41MB/s. If you get 6.9MB/s with large files then our results are in line. If you get that throughput when writing smaller files to the card then there must be something wrong with either my card or card reader. What is you average file size and card reader?

On the other hand my card does not at all feel slower than other cards in the Axim, and certainly much faster than the BIS when browsing in Resco Explorer. How do you perform the "video benchmarking or file browsing" you mentioned? I'd like to run those tests on my Ax.
