Axim X5 - 1 or 2 GB sd card?
Where does one go to find out how large an SC card you can use for the Axim X5?
How do I know????
I have the 400 MHz / 64MB ram X5 from a few years back

I wouldn't know how to upgrade it to use a 2 GB card, but I want to use a 2 GB card if possible.

If I do learn how to 'upgrade' so I can use a 2 GB card, will anything I have 'not work'?

If I can't use the 2 GB card, can I use a 1 GB card?

Need to get one asap please.

welcome Tawrena,

There have been issues with various manufacturers of SD cards - I think that this is the problem more than how much storage capacity. I suggest you search SD cards + x5 and read some of the posts there.

Good luck and enjoy your Axim!

You should be fine with a 2GB from a good manufacturer; I just tried my Transcend 4GB in my X5 and it sees it just fine.

This is a very confusing topic, well at least to me. Are you testing this in an x5? (your profile indicates you are using an x50) I think most of the threads linked below contradict this....

If this helps with the confusion, I also own an X5; I only have my current Ax listed on my profile, I have tried both 1GB and 4GB cards in my X5 and had no issues therefore I could see no reason why it would not recognise a 2GB card from a good manufacturer.

Axim X5 - 1 or 2 GB card?
I am sorry I confused anyone. I don't even remember making that profile in 2004 and probably thought I had typed it correctly.
What I stated yesterday is what I have. Dell Axim X5. 400MHz. 64 MB RAM, 48 MB ROM, ROM version A05(07170300EN)

Someone told me if I 'updated' my pda I could use larger SD cards. I would need to learn where to go to do that of course.

But if I can use a 1 or 2 GB card, I would be very happy without the update even.
I tried looking on Dell's pages to find out what the largest card I can use is but came away frustrated. ??? Couldn't find the answer.

I found some good prices online. But if I pay that much for a card, I want it to 'work' if you get my drift. That's why I'm asking questions before I 'leap' <or before the money leaps out of my wallet I should say!>

I have read that you can put any size SD card in your X5, BUT it will only recognize the first 1gb. Everything above that will not be accessible.

I think that those posters who say that a 2 or 4 gb SD card works in their X5 have not tried to put over 1 gb of data on it yet.

Yes what mjwsatx has said is true... iwth my X5 i could see above 1 GB on my 2 GB Sandisk SD card, but couldn't access or use anything above 1 GB. So just go for the one GB as you can't use the 2 GB fully

Its a fair point, I accessed a folder with 2GB worth of movies in it to play a file but what works on one machine does not necessarily work on all - witness the issues with the X51 - go with the best advice I only use a 1GB CF & SD in it normally - the test with the 4GB was curiosity which worked for me but may not work for everyone.

Go for 4 or more

That is if you want to watch some movies on ur pda (good qual xvid is min 700 megs).

By the way which one would be a better choice if both cost around the same price:

1) 8GB CFII
2) 4GB 150X SD

If you expect to be copying movie files onto the card regularly, I'd say go with the 150x SD. It should achieve better write speeds while copying files to it. My 150x Transcend runs at 11MB/s when copying 700MB movie files to it.

The price per gig is not very different. SanDisk UltraII 8GB 66x CF is approx. $330, A-Data 4GB 150x SD approx. $155.

Another option might be the SanDisk Extreme III 4GB CF card for movies plus a 1GB or 2GB SD card for other data. The introduction of the 8GB model caused 4GB prices to drop. I picked mine up for $220 each. The EIII moves close to 15MB each second i.e. copies four 700MB files almost a minute faster than the 150x Transcend.
