As noted by Aximsite member, Cheryl, ZZF now has the ADATA 150X 4GB SD card for $129.99 without rebates. Good to know we have choices as some people rather not have to deal with rebates. I have read here that the ADATA and Transcend cards are the same, has this ever been verified? Are benchmark test for these two cards the same?

Cool. Did you have to do anything special to get the Transcend to work in the S2? Mine just won't. :( Which SD-to-CF adapter do you use?

I believe you will find this thread interesting.

I ran some speed test and the transcend is actually faster than my old 1GB ATP SD card. I also have a eagletec SD-to-CF adapter which I used in the test.

Testing program: spb benchmark 1.6
Test: 1MB file write and 1MB file read, average of 13 passes
- 1GB ATP 60X SD: fat32, 4K clusters, no backup fat table
- 4GB Transcend 150X SD: fat32, 4K clusters, no backup fat table
- Axim x50v NOR rom: fat??, 8K clusters, backup fat table

1GB ATP 60X SD in SD slot: write: 6882 ms, read: 439 ms
1GB ATP 60X SD in CF slot: write: 6889 ms, read: 457 ms

4GB Transcend 150X SD in SD slot: write: 5449 ms, read: 420 ms
4GB Transcend 150X SD in CF slot: write: 5437 ms, read: 452 ms

Axim x50v NOR rom: write: 4385 ms, read: 33 ms

So the lower the number, the better. I actually reformatted each card with sktools to remove the backup fat table to help speed things up.

Thanks for that link. So, if I am reading the results correctly, the ADATA and Transcend 150x 4GB SD cards yielded pretty much the same results and furthermore, both seem to be pretty slow relative to other lower capacity cards.

I use the Eagletec adapter I picked up from a trip to Hong Kong a year ago:
http://www.the-gadgeteer.com/review/...adapter_review

I didn't do any thing special to get the transcend to work in the s2. I didn't test it out of the box in my S2, but I did try it in my axim x50v first with no problems. Then when I read the comment a few posts ago about the poor performance, I decided to investigate. I of course came across your link on storage card testing and how the format type affects speed.

So I formatted the card using sktools with the default settings but with no backup fat table. This resulted in a fat32 4k cluster format. Then I put it into my S2 and it came up right away showing I can store over 1000 photos. Then I took a few videos and was satisfied that it was working, though I didn't try to fill it up.

In what way does it not work in the s2 for you? Does it complain that it can't find the card or that it needs to be formatted? Were you using the exotic fat16 64k cluster format?

From my benchmarks, it looks like the x50v's nor rom is pretty speedy compared to the storage card interfaces. I'm curious how the x51v's nand rom would compare. Anybody got those results?

Thanks!

Thanks for the link.

I tried multiple formatting options including the default FAT32 4k with backup FAT. The card is not recognized. "Memory card error" is displayed upon startup. It is not possible to format the card in the S2. Since the card is not recognized the Format menu item is disabled. :rolling:
