Seagate 8GB Transfer Speeds
Hey Guys,

Just got a 8GB MD this week. Its is ungodly slow to copy stuff to! Has anyone else experienced this?? Reading is fine, copying smaller files (under 6mb) is fine, but when I go to copy a movie through the ax either from my sd card, or from the computer movement is non existent. It took 1.5 hours to copy a 158mb movie from my sd card!! Advice?

Definitely,

It's called a USB 2.0 Card Reader. I transfer roughly 2Gb per week to/from my 8Gb MD drive each week. I canned my USB 1.0 CF card reader after I got my 8Gb a few weeks ago. MS active sync TOTALLY BLOWS when it comes to transfering ANYTHING to your CF MD.

Do the right thing, put a piece of tape on your MD so that you can pull it out every time you need to transfer something onto your MD. Then slide it into your USB 2.0 CF card reader and let the good times roll.

BTW the reason I transfer so much each week is because I listen to about twenty hours a week of Podcasts. If you would like to learn how to set up an 'auto-sync' with your CF reader check this out:

I use Juice as my PodCast sync application. ITunes can GTH for all I care.

Enjoy your 8Gb of freedom!

Kemo

Lol. You actually waited 1.5hrs for the transfer?

As kemo said, get a card reader

Yes, buy a card reader. To give you an idea of the expected speed: my 6GB Hitachi can be copied to in my card reader at a rate of 2.5MB/s. Which means that copying 158MB would take a little over 1 minute. This, by the way, is slooooow.

Guess I'll have to spring for a card reader, thanks guys, was worried if it was busted because of the difference between it and my 512mb sandisk. I actually have a cf reader for my laptop to go in the pc card slot, but it only fits type 1 cards, what a bummer!
