Can I just copy all the files from my SD Card onto my PC, reformat the SD, and re-copy the files back onto the SD card? Does that work or is it more complicated than that?
This will work just fine. Copy all files from your storage card to your PC (use a card reader if you have one instead of using ActiveSync for performance reasons), reformat the card using FAT16 and then copy the files back to the card. Use higher cluster value if you are going to store large files on the card (such as movies, mp3s etc) and also do not use a backup FAT copy - that will improve performance as well.

I don't see why anyone should be complaining. I've been using my 4GB SD for sometime and there isn't any major slowdown. You wait only a few seconds and for videos and what not, there is no delay in accessing it. No hicks no choppy images or anything of that sorta. Maybe people should just get a Dell Axim X30. That's my opinion.

Thanks.

I reformatted my 1GB SD card to FAT16 and ran iGuidance on my Axim. It was noticeably faster!! Before with FAT32, I always thought iGuidance was slow, taking a good 1-2 seconds to respond to inputs. With the new FAT16 formatting, it responds in less than 1/2 second.

I don't know what cluster sizes I had, but both were formatted using Windows Explorer so it was the Windows default (it's not even selectable).

Thank You!

I realize this thread is old, but I noticed my TomTom was painfully slow in starting up and in recalculating routes (i would miss the exit it recalculated and it would recalculate again and again and again).

I formatted to fat 16 64b cluster, and its zippy again. I guess i didnt even realize it was the Transcend card that was slowing down the system. I love my AX again!
