This will work just fine. Copy all files from your storage card to your PC (use a card reader if you have one instead of using ActiveSync for performance reasons), reformat the card using FAT16 and then copy the files back to the card. Use higher cluster value if you are going to store large files on the card (such as movies, mp3s etc) and also do not use a backup FAT copy - that will improve performance as well.

I reformatted my 1GB SD card to FAT16 and ran iGuidance on my Axim. It was noticeably faster!! Before with FAT32, I always thought iGuidance was slow, taking a good 1-2 seconds to respond to inputs. With the new FAT16 formatting, it responds in less than 1/2 second.
I don't know what cluster sizes I had, but both were formatted using Windows Explorer so it was the Windows default (it's not even selectable).
